Violins:  All Sunday Violin Audition times are filled.  To schedule an audition for Saturday, June 4th, call our office before 7pm today (Friday, June 3rd).

 

All Other Instrumentalists & Vocalists:    To guarentee an audition time, you must request an audition before
12 noon on Saturday, June 5th.  We cannot guarantee scheduling of
Audition Requests received after that time.

Children's Ballet Workshop

Hartford: June 27-July 1

Ballet Workshop for children ages 5-8, includes creative movement, ballet, choreographed dances, related arts and crafts, and a studio performance. Beginners welcome!

Summer Youth Dance Intensive  

Summer Youth Dance IntensiveSimsbury: July 11-22
Hartford: July 25-Aug 5
9am-5pm

Two-Week Summer Youth Dance Intensive for serious young dancers ages 9-15. Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Dance Composition classes with bonus courses on nutrition, stretch & strengthening and stage make-up.

The Full Force Dance Theatre program provides valuable training for the professionally-bound dancer as well as a refreshing change of pace for the returning professional or teacher. Participants in Full Force will work with Hartt faculty to improve their modern technique, learn body conditioning tips, and work on improvisation and repertory. Because of the rigorous nature of the program, all dancers should be currently training and have a strong foundation in ballet or modern technique. Minimum age requirement is 16 years.

The Summer Tune-Up is a week-long summer music camp open to students in grades 5-8 who play strings, winds, brass, guitar or piano. Last Call for Performer's Certificate Acceptance

flutesA Reminder for Honors Students who are entering grades 10 & 11 in the fall:  If you are interested in placement in the Performer's Certificate Program, you need to contact Donna Menhart  in writing before June 6th (email will suffice). 

Class enrollment will be determined by July 1, 2011.  Students who wish to accept the invitation into the program must confirm their acceptance in writing to Donna Menhart (email will suffice).  Class size is limited and students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  

 

HCD Faculty:  If you have a student of the appropriate age and grade that was accepted into Honors and they have not received a letter, please contact Donna Menhart at menhart@hartford.edu or
860-768-4120.   Also, if you have a student who was unable to participate in the honors audition process due to scheduling issues and you feel that student is of the appropriate ability, please contact Donna immediately.

Check out HCD Voice Faculty Member Louise Fauteux, performing with The Alturas Duo.  The Alturas Duo features the talents of Carlos Boltes, HCD Viola Faculty Member, and Scott Hill, HCD Guitar Faculty Member.  The Duo was formed with the idea of playing South American and classical music by bringing together the unusual combination of the viola, charango and guitar.  Also joining Louise and The Duo in this performance is Jose Sacin, a Peruvian baritone.

Hartford Children's Theatre Auditions 

Hartford Children's TheatreHARTFORD CHILDREN'S THEATRE (360 Farmington Avenue, Hartford, CT) announces General Season Auditions for the 2011-2012 Family Main Stage Series and HCT on the Road.  Season auditions will be held by appointment only at HCT's Carriage House Theatre on Wednesday, June 22 from 6 - 9 pm and Saturday, June 25 from 11 am - 3 pm.  The 2011-2012 Season includes Hairspray, Little Women the Musical, Peter Pan, Pinkalicious the Musical and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.  Roles are available for adult and youth (age 8 and up) performers. 

Casting for all Main Stage and HCT on the Road productions will be done through these General Season Auditions.  Call Back Auditions will be held throughout the season.  HCT produces three large-scale Main Stage productions and two touring productions each season.

 

All performers should come prepared to perform an age appropriate monologue (not to exceed 1 minute), 16 measures of a musical theatre song and a short dance combination as taught by our choreographer.  You must provide sheet music marked with your cuts - an accompanist will be provided.  All performers are required to submit a headshot (or clear photo) and a resume.  If you do not have a monologue, please visit our website for a variety of audition readings.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition.

Fundraisers & Benefit Concerts

Flatbread Pizza LogoHCD Students hold fundraiser at Flatbread Pizza on June 8th

In following Dr. Suzuki's intention of bringing joy through music to those who are suffering, HCD students will be sharing their time and talent for this fundraising event to help those suffering from the recent natural disasters in Japan. Students of The Hartt School Community Division will be performing at Flatbread Pizza of Canton, on Wednesday, June 8th (5pm -10pm).  Flatbread Pizza will donate 20-25% of ALL pizza sales between 5-10 pm on that night to The Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.  Come out and enjoy some delicious pizza (or order take-out!) and help us raise money to help our friends and neighbors in Japan!

Bill Willett, Woodwinds Specialist

Founder of the New Horizons Band

The Hartt School and The Hartt School Community Division mourn the loss of
Dr. Bill Willett, Professor Emeritus, Conductor, Woodwind Specialist, former chair of the Music Education Department at The Hartt School.  Dr. Willett has been a Hartt Community Division faculty member since 2007.  He was also the founding director of the New Horizons Band.  
 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 26th at 1 p.m. at The Unitarian Society of Hartford, 50 Bloomfield Avenue in Hartford. The Willett family requests that memorial donations in Bill's name be made to the Unitarian Society of Hartford. Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements.
Lost & Found 

Reminder for all parents and students:  Please check the lost & found to see if any items you are missing have been found.  Any items not claimed by Monday, June 20th will be donated to a local charity.  All HCD Offices have a Lost & Found (Main Campus, Simsbury & Handel Performing Arts Center).  Check with your HCD receptionist, if you don't know where it is located!
