Summer Youth Dance Intensive
for serious young dancers, ages 9-15Simsmore Square, SimsburyJuly 11-22, 2011 9:00 am-5:00 pm Handel Performing Arts Center, HartfordJuly 25-August 5, 2011 9:00 am-5:00 pm Join us for our Summer Youth Dance Intensive, designed to hone the skills of serious young dancers ages 9-15. This intensive training program will provide a foundation in solid ballet technique as well as educate the student on a variety of dance forms and related skills necessary to make a well-rounded artist. Classes include ballet, pointe, pre-pointe, modern, jazz, and composition. Courses on nutrition, stretch, strengthening, dance history, and stage make-up will also be included to enhance the students' education. In addition, students will present an informal performance at the end of the camp. Students must attend both weeks of the camp to participate in the performance. This year's program features interpretations of works by Agnes De Mille (Simsbury location) and Alvin Ailey (Hartford location). These works will be thoroughly explored in classes led by Hartt Community Division faculty.

West End String Quartet Seminar

If you have not yet attended a WESQ Seminar, join us tomorrow! It is fun for both performers and audience members and much is learned about chamber music in the process. This Friday marks the completion of the four part masterclass series that the WESQ began last fall. It has been a wonderful season, and we encourage you to come for the last class!
Two HCD string chamber groups will be featured in this final WESQ Seminar on Friday, April 8 7:30-8:30pm in Room 410/12 at Hartt:

Benefit Concerts for Japan
Please join us for a benefit concert for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The concert will feature Hartford Symphony Orchestra Members and Community Division faculty and will be held Saturday April 9th at 6pm, at the Unitarian Meeting House (50 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford). All donations will go to the American Red Cross.
Come out to see Community Division students perform in another benefit concert at the Sakura Garden Restaurant in Bishops Corner from 6:45-8pm on Saturday, April 9th. Stop by after the concert listed above for a bite to eat and another opportunity to help our friends and neighbors in Japan. Free will donations will be accepted and donations will go to the American Red Cross.
Switched on Bach
 Come see HCD Students Maya Irizarry Lambright and Abigail Lila Sunde play the first movement of Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor and HCD students Jonathan Ma and Jacob Caruk play the 2nd and 3rd movements. Maya and Abigail are students of Teri Einfeldt; Jacob and Jonathan study violin with Mickey Reisman. This concert also features HCD Piano Faculty Member Tamila Humphreys as soloist in Back's Concerto in D minor for piano and orchestra with the Beth El Temple Orchestra. HCD Alumni perform in Musical Club of Hartford Concert The Musical Club of Harford presents a piano quartet performance featuring two HCD Alumni and past winners of the Musical Club's High School Competition Scholarship recipients - Lily Francis, viola (pictured) and Michael Haas, cello. All four members of the piano quartet are graduates of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philiadelphia. The other members of the quartet are Roman Rabinovich, piano, and Johannes Dickbauer, violin. The group will be performing Brahms' Piano Quartet in C minor and Dvorak's Piano Quartet in E-Flat on Thursday, April 14th at 10am. The concert will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church (2080 Boulevard, West Hartford). Admission is $10 for adults and non-members. Students and Musical Club members are free.
HCD Chamber Groups perform with the Lion's Gate Trio
 Three Community Division chamber groups will join Hartt collegiate chamber groups and the Lions Gate Trio in a concert featuring the music of Brahms and Schumann. The Lions Gate Trio features Violinist and Hartt Faculty Member Katie Lansdale, pianist Florence Millet, and cellist Marcy Rosen. The Lions Gate Trio is an internationally acclaimed ensemble in both the U.S. and Europe that enjoys a combination of performing, recording, and working with young musicians in educational settings.

Percussion Park ~ A Musical Landscape
Under the direction of Benjamin Toth, the Hartt Percussion Ensemble presents Percussion Park, a full length musical landscape composed by Hartt faculty member and recipient of the 2011 Hartt Alumni Award, David Macbride. This performance is on Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium and throughout the Fuller Music Center. A map of the performance sites will be distributed in Millard Auditorium. The audience is invited to roam the building to enjoy the music, and to participate in a meditative finale (percussion instruments provided). FREE ADMISSION AND FUN FOR ALL AGES! Scholarship Audition for Full Force Dance Theatre Modern Dance Summer Intensive, Saturday April 9th
This year's audition for scholarships for students interested in attending the 8th Annual Full Force Dance Theatre's Modern Dance Summer Intensive, July 11th through July 22nd will be held at the Mort & Irma Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford on Saturday, April 9th from 12:30pm - 2:30pm in Studio 5. Dancers need to be over 16yrs old to attend the program. For more information on the audition or the program please contact katdanc@aol.com.

April Vacation Dates for the Dance Department
The Dance Department's April vacation dates are: Monday, April 18th through Friday, April 22nd No classes will be held unless a faculty member has arranged for a makeup class during this week. Classes will be held as normally scheduled on Saturday, April 23rd.
Dance Ensemble Concert, Saturday, April 30th
This year's concert will feature students from the Junior and Senior Performance Ensembles from the Intensive Division of the Dance Department alongside students from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, The Hartt School's Collegiate Dance Division and members of Full Force Dance Theatre. The performance will be on Saturday, April 30th at 2pm at the Mandel Jewish Community Center (JCC), 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.
