    Piano Honors Scholarships Announced

     

    We are proud to announce the Piano Honors Scholarship winners. 

     

    Ethan Wu, piano student of Sima Brodsky, is the winner of the Evelyn Bonar Storrs Scholarship I.  This award is given to the

    student with the best performance at the Senior Piano Honors Auditions and the awards includes a scholarship of $1750 towards HCD Private Lessons.

    2010-11 Piano Honors Conan XiaoConan Xiao (right), a piano student of Maggie Francis, is the second place winner of the Evelyn Bonar Storrs scholarship.  The award includes a scholarship of $750 towards HCD Private Lesosns.

    Mary Pan (left), also a piano student of Maggie Francis, is the winner of the Jeffrey Quinn Morrison Memorial Prize, awarded to the best performance by a Senior at the Piano Honors Auditions.

     

     

     

    Justin He (pictured above with Ethan Wu and Hilary Respass), a piano student of Tamila Humphreys, is the winner of the Watson Morrison Piano Scholarship which is awarded to the best performance by a middle school student at the Piano Honors Auditions. The award is a scholarship for private lessons at the Hartt Community Division in the amount of $250.

    Every year over 100 Hartt Community Division students are accepted to the CMEA's Regional or All-State Music Festivals. We will publish the list of HCD Students (as complete as possible!) after the All-State Festival, April 7-10th.

    From the Studio of Anne Kan, piano
    Dr. Frank Davidoff, piano student of Anne Kan, has published an article in the Annals of Internal Medicine titled "Music Lessons: What Musicians Can Teach Doctors (and Other Health Professionals)."  As a supplement to the article, Frank also performs the Prelude and Fugue in E Major, from J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1.   For more information on the article, click here. 
      
    Faculty pianist Anne Kan and violinist Yen Yu will be performing in a duo recital at Zimmerli Art Musuem (Rutgers University) on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 3 p.m. Program includes works by Beethoven, Dvorak, Kreisler and Korngold.  More info.

    Home of the Connecticut Children's Chorus, Connecticut Youth Symphony, Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble and many others, Hartt boasts our region's best youth performing ensembles.   

     

    The Audition Day Festival at The Hartt School Community Division, University of Hartford, draws students from around the state and southern Massachusetts to audition for placement in our youth music ensembles for the upcoming academic school year, September 2011 through June 2012.   

     

    Instrumentalists in grades 6 - 12 and vocalists in grades 1-12 flock to the University of Hartford campus for this opportunity. 

     

    Instrumental Ensemble Auditions are held in June only.  Those who audition in June will be notified of acceptance within 1 week of their audition.    CCC auditions will be offered again in September for the coming school year.

    Join us for a one-day workshop for high school dance students who are considering a college career in dance.


    Sunday, April 3, 9:00am - 4:00pm

    at 

    Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center

    35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford, CT 06112  

     

    If you are passionate about continuing your pursuit of dance after high school, at college or in some capacity, this one-day workshop will:


     

    • give you the experience of an audition class  
    • help you to understand the differences between college dance  programs  
    • provide you with the skills of crafting an excellent dance resume, preparing your audition piece and video, and conducting yourself in an interview.

     

     

    This workshop is ideally suited for high school sophomores and juniors with previous dance experience, and their parents and teachers.

    11th Annual Women Composers Concert 

    Come out to see Hartt Community Division Voice Faculty & Guest Artists perform in the 11th Annual Women Composer's Concert on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 5pm in Berkman Recital Hall.  This concert is free and open to the public.

    Featuring: 
    Nancy Andersen, Susan Mardinly and Sarah Comfort-Reed (sopranos), Mezzo-Soprano Adrienne Milics, Tenor Jack Pott & Bass Jason Stammen.    

    The concert will include music by women composers Libby Larsen, Hartt Alum Gwyneth Walker, Clara Schumann and Sarah Meneely-Kyder as well as the 2011 VOCAL SCORE CALL WINNERS:  Dale Trumbore and Beth Anderson.

     

    The Connecticut Doctors Orchestra 

    The Connecticut Doctors Orchestra will be presenting a benefit concert Sunday, March 27th at 3pm.  The concert will include appearances by The First Church of Christ Women's Praise Choir, Simsbury High School's men's and women's a capella groups, and Ethel Walker School's a cappella group "The Grapes".

     

    Free-will donations will be accepted for the purpose of completion of the construction of a health clinic and the provision of bed nets in the village of Bawa, Cameroon.

    Established in November 2008, The Connecticut Doctors' Orchestra (www.thecdo.com) is comprised of a group of health care and medical science professionals who love music and wish to share music with the community.  The members are physicians, nurses, biomedical scientists, and medical and dental students making it one of the nation's few string orchestras whose musicians work in the health field.  The CDO's conductor is Eric Dahlin (HCD Cello Faculty) and the music director is Melinda Daetsch (HCD Suzuki Viola & Viola Faculty).
