    LAST CALL: String Orchestra Workshop with Emlyn Ngai

     

    Adaskin String Trio

    Intermediate to advanced string players 16 and older are strongly encouraged to sign up for this Sunday's Baroque String Workshop with Emlyn Ngai.  This is a rare opportunity to work directly with Mr. Ngai, who is concert master of the highly acclaimed Baroque orchestra Tempesta di Mare http://tempestadimare.org/.  
    Throughout this reading session, Mr. Ngai will share his expertise in the performance techniques of this period.  Come learn how to play Bach more authentically and build your own skills in this area.

    2011 David Einfeldt String Orchestra Composition Contest

    We are pleased to announce the Second Annual David Einfeldt String Orchestra Composition Competition. The competition is to benefit a scholarship fund in memory of David Einfeldt, a Suzuki Viola teacher and the founder of the Suzuki String Orchestras here at Hartt.  This program helps to fund community outreach, bring in guest artists and masterclass teachers, and to spread David's love of music to as many students as possible.

     

    Submission of materials:  ALL of the following must be submitted by April 18, 2011:

    · Application Form & $25 application fee
     
    · Computer-notated scores are required. However, legible hand-written scores will be accepted with special permission from the program director

    · 3 copies of the score, double-sided & bound

    · 1 set of proof-read parts

    · In addition to all of the above, students may also send a MIDI or audio recording. A Finale or Sibelius file is acceptable for this purpose.

    Spring Festival

    Students who are currently enrolled in Children's Ballet I through the Intensive Division E/F are eligible to perform in the Spring Festival which will be held in Millard Auditorium at the University of Hartford on Saturday, June 18th and Sunday, June 19th.   Production week details and permission slips have been handed out in class.   To participate in the Spring Festival your permission slip must be returned by Friday, March 12th.

     

    Parent Meeting

    The next Ballet Booster's parent meeting will be held on Monday, March 7th from 5:30pm - 6:30pm in the Community Room at the Hartford location.  All parents are welcome to attend.

    The Hartt School Community Division Parent Boosters hold their board meetings on the first Monday of each month.  The boosters raise money and organize events to facilitate our children's dance experience.  Additionally, these meetings provide parents with an opportunity to build the Hartt Dance Community and talk with each other about their children's dance education. 

     

    Meetings are open to all parents/guardians of dancers, and we encourage you to attend! Join us on the first Monday of each month: 5:30-6:30pm in the Community Room at the Handel Performing Arts Center.

    Join us for the Senior String Honors Recital on Saturday, March 12, 2011, 7:00 pm in Berkman Recital Hall, featuring the Hartt Community Division's top string players showcasing their talents.  These students were selected by audition, and our adjudicators were Dr. Jeffrey Cox, Chair of the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; and Andrew Mark, Chair of the Department of Strings at Boston Conservatory of Music and cellist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

    11th Annual Women Composers Concert

    Come out to see Hartt Community Division Voice Faculty & Guests Artists perform in the 11th Annual Women Composer's Concert on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 5pm in Berkman Recital Hall.  This concert is free and open to the public.

     Future of the American Orchestras

     

    The Hartt Symphony Orchestra

    Check out The Future of American Orchestras - a panel discussion of the problems and prospects facing American symphony orchestras, their music, and their audience's expectations. This timely conversation examined trends and challenges facing youth, community, collegiate,and professional orchestras. The panel was sponsored by The President's College and The Hartt School of the University of Hartford as part of Showcase2010, Sunday September 19, 2010.

    Asher LengeHCD Dance Program Manager Melissa Lenge and her husband Enoch are proud to announce the birth of their son, Asher.  Little Asher was born on Sunday February 27th at 10:45am weighing 6lbs 8oz!  

     

    Gavin BeanWe are also happy to welcome Gavin, the son of Scott Bean (HCD Trombone Faculty) and his wife Lynette Stoyles.  Gavin Scott Benjamin Bean was born on the 16th of February at 8:14 am, 6 lbs, 9 ounces, 20 inches long.


     

    Welcome to the world, little ones!!  We hope your lives are filled with music, laughter and love!

    ParkingThursday, March 3rd through Sunday, March 6th: Traffic patterns on the main campus will change due to the America East Men's and Women's Basketball Championships at the University of Hartford Sports Center.

     

    It may take longer than usual to find a parking space on this weekend.  Please plan accordingly. 

     

    HCD families should park in Parking Lot D, as usual.
