Celesti Sondato in Concert

Under the direction of Noah Glynn, Celesti Sondato, the HCD's adult chamber choir presents Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata with brass quintet and organ as well as works by Bob Chilcott, Frank Ticheli and others. The HCD's Honors Bass Quintet, coached by Dan D'Addio, will join Celesti Sondato as special guest performers.
CCC in Concert: Overture, Prelude & Canticum Choirs
Sunday, January 23, 2011 3pm This concert is FREE & Open to the Public! Immanuel Congregational Church 10 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT
The Overture Choir will perform The Bell Doth Toll (a traditional round) and She's Like The Swallow (arranged by Lori-Anne Dolloff) featuring Becky Schwartz, member of HCD's Connecticut Youth Symphony, on flute. Jeffrey Rhone directs this group of 1st-3rd grade students.
The Prelude Choir, directed by Katherine Zahara and accompanied by Cihan Yucel, will perform Sarasponda (arranged by Ruth Boshkoff), February Twilight (by Stephen Gryc) and Oye by Jim Papoulis.
The Canticum Choir, directed by Lillie Feierabend and accompanied by Matthew Campisi, will perform Laudeamus Te by Antonio Vivaldi (arr. by Doreen Rao), When I Lay Me Down to Sleep by James Quitman Mulholland and "She Shall Have Music" from the Nursery Rhyme Cantata by Nick Page.
A Family Concert with Susan Reed
Susan Reed is a nationally-acclaimed classical violinist, folk musician, singer and storyteller from the Boston area. Her goal is to inspire a life-long love of music. Common to all of her performances is a trademark sense of humor and optimism, and her conviction that music has the power to broaden people's understanding of the world around them. Performing with Ms. Reed will be the HCD's Opus 89 String Orchestra and the Canticum Choir of the Connecticut Children's Chorus.

Bring a Friend to Class Week- NEXT WEEK!!
January 24th-29th will be our "Bring a Friend to Class Week". All registered students in Discovery, Tiny Tap, Tap, Children's Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Adult Classes are encouraged to share your love of dance by bringing a friend to class!
This does not apply to children in our Intensive Ballet Program (Levels Foundation through E/F).
ALL DANCE STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO DANCE CLASSES held on FRIDAY JANUARY 28th due to The Hartt School's college auditions.

| West End String Quartet Masterclass ~ February 4th | | |
Masterclass Opportunity for HCD String Chamber Groups
The West End String Quartet Seminar continues on February 4th. In this new chamber music program, The West End String Quartet will offer a series of four masterclasses for Hartt Community Division string chamber groups. These classes will be held in room 410/412 of The Hartt School, University of Hartford campus, free of charge for HCD chamber ensembles. The classes will also be open to the public.

The String House of Kanack will be at Hartt this weekend for instrument sizing, rental & purchase. The String House staff will have with them a variety of violins, violas, cellos and bows of all sizes.

Our parent forums are open to all Suzuki parents but this one will be directed toward parents of book 1 students. A short question-answer session will follow. |

Led by Nancy Andersen
Keep your voice in good condition for a lifetime. This class will explore simple, yet effective, exercises that can be used to develop a healthy daily vocal regimen. Seasoned singers and beginners alike will benefit. All techniques may be applied to solo or choral singing in many styles.

Aston Patterning Workshop
Improving Body Usage and Performance, Decreasing Injury, and Increasing Enjoyment on Your Instrument - Wellness for Musicians.
This workshop is an introduction to The Aston System for Musicians. It will teach you how to find your optimal playing and/or singing position (each person is different!). Please bring two bath towels, your instrument, and a desire to improve your playing or singing.

Watson Morrison, Professor Emeritus of Piano, peforms a program of Romantic piano music observing the 200th anniversary of the births of Shumann, Chopin and Liszt.
This concert is FREE and open to the public.
Hartt Community Division Faculty perform in The Hartt School's Faculty Recital Series Sunday, January 23, 2011 2pm Berkman Recital Hall, The Hartt School, University of Hartford
The program will include two works by Bach, a trio sonata and Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, music of Max Bruch for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, and Four Sketches for Brass Quintet by Anthony Plog.
Performers include: Katie Bonner, Sheri Brown, Daniel D'Addio, Melinda Daetsch, Teri Einfeldt, Alan Francis, Margreet Francis, Jordan Jacobson, Emlyn Ngai, Sue Powell, Susan Robison, Pete Roe, Greig Shearer, Susan Spaulding and Sarah Washburn.

Eric Dahlin, Jaroslaw Lis, Teri Einfeldt and Katie Kennedy are pleased to announce 2011 Music Adventure programs in Italy at Tenuta di Spannocchia, a historic, organic, agricultural estate in Tuscany, near Siena.
Chamber Music for Young Artists:

2010 Music Adventure Students & Faculty |
This is an intensive two week chamber music program for advanced high school students. August 6 - 20, 2011. Included in this experience are daily chamber music coachings, string orchestra, concerts and masterclasses, private lessons & day trips. There is a maximum of 16 student participants per year.
Auditions will be held for "Chamber Music for Young Artists" at The Hartt School on Sunday, February 27th from 11:30am - 2:30pm. Please email Eric at dahlin@musicadventure.org to request an audition. Applications and auditions should be completed by February 15, 2011. Applicants should be at least 14 years of age by August 2011 or entering 9th grade in fall 2011.
Adult Cello Workshop: An 8 day retreat for cellists to focus on developing their playing in a friendly, collegial environment while enjoying the beautiful Tuscan countryside, Spannocchia's renowned cuisine and the local wine. There is a maximum of 8 participants with no audition required. July 27 - August 6.

| The University of Hartford gets a little greener... | | |
The University of Hartford is enhancing its recyling program. HCD students, faculty & staff are encouraged to recycle bottles & cans in the newly provided recycling bins which will be marked with signs displaying the new "Committed to Community" recycling logo:
A few guidelines to keep in mind:
- Empty cans and bottles will be placed in the new bins, which are labeled and located in the hallways.
- All office paper (both white and colored paper) will be placed in the original blue bins.
