Celebrating the End of Don't Ask, Don't Tell

September 20
- Out & Equal Founding Executive Director Selisse Berry applauded the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. "Today began with another barrier to full equality in the workplace falling," said Berry. "Discrimination doesn't have the last word in this country-equality is what matters-and we saw that very powerfully today with the end of the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy."

Out & Equal Associate Director of Training Pat Baillie

As part of a national celebration, Out & Equal San Francisco celebrated the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Out & Equal Associate Director of Training Pat Baillie addressed the crowd at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center.

Pat welcomed active duty military service members to the struggle for workplace equality and discussed the fact that there is still a lot of work to be done to create safe, productive working environments for all. Corporations have been creating diverse environments for years. At least military members can't be fired now for being lesbian, gay, or bisexual. The next frontier is gaining the same protections for transgender military members.

Retired Navy Commander Zoe Dunning

Out & Equal also joined organizations including Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and many other representatives from the LGBT community and our allies at a daytime gathering at San Francisco City Hall. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual veterans including retired Naval Commander Zoe Dunning joined in the celebration. California State Senator Mark Leno also addressed the crowd and applauded the end of this discriminatory law.

You can read more about Out & Equal's response to the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell on our website
