Recently LAN renovated a gymnasium at Roberge Elementary School for the River Vale Board of Education in River Vale, New Jersey. The renovation included a new wood floor assembly. We chose to use a product by Action Floors because of their "green" products and their environmentally-friendly manufacturing methods and facilities.
The new gymnasium floor assembly is composed of a foam underlayment, 2 layers of plywood subfloor and a finish of maple hard wood.
The maple wood flooring is MFMA ( Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association, Inc.) accredited. The MFMA is dedicated to preserving and protecting America's forestlands, while providing products necessary for building. The floor is then finished with a totally solvent-free, water-based synthetic polyurethane seal. Even on a project where attaining LEED points is not necessary, choosing products that reduce negative impacts on the environment is good practice when designing.
