Rotary-Sponsored Team from India Visits GES

A group of young professionals led by a Rotarian Team Leader spent a month in South Alabama learning about the community and culture of the region.
While at Goodwill Easter Seals, the visitors learned of the many ways local communities deal with limiting conditions such as disability, low income, and lack of education and job readiness skills.
Since members' backgrounds include hotel management, social work, the legal profession, the seafood industry and financial planning, much of what they learned can be directly applied when returning home.
The team visited many local Rotary groups, and gave presentations about the life and culture of India, in addition to commenting on the similarities and differences they found in America. The local seafood was a favorite among team members, but one member repeatedly men-tioned "mashed potatoes" when asked his favorite food discovery. After a visit to Dauphin Island Sea Lab and a sailing excursion on the Joshua, these new associates completed their visit with a better understanding of life on the Gulf Coast. |
