Enrollment for Voting by Mail from College
WAUKEGAN, Illinois - Lake County Clerk Willard Helander urges families with college students temporarily away at school to have the students "enroll" to receive a ballot by mail at their school address for the April 5 Consolidated Election. This convenient voting option, the Temporarily Absent Student Program, requires a Lake County registered voter to complete an enrollment form designating their college mailing address for receipt of a ballot. Forms can be downloaded at the County Clerk's website VotingByMail.info or requested via email sent to VotingByMail@lakecountyil.gov or by calling (847) 377-2406. Forms are also available at your local municipal or township office.
Enrollment is effective for a two-year period and each summer the County Clerk's office confirms the student's college address for the next school year. Who qualifies? Take the easy County Clerk quiz: Are you registered to vote in Lake County? Do you attend school outside of Lake County? If you answered yes to both questions, you can sign up for the convenient program to automatically receive a ballot at your school address. "This program helps students who might otherwise not remember to vote," said Helander. "With demanding schedules in college, students are encouraged by the Clerk's office to take advantage of this easy enrollment option."
