YHC to Celebrate 2012-2013 Basketball Season Home Opener with Homecoming Festivities
This fall, Young Harris College students, alumni and Mountain Lions fans will celebrate the home opener of the 2012-2013 basketball season with Homecoming, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 16-17. Centered around the theme "Blast from the Past," this exciting annual event will be presented in collaboration with the offices of Student Development and Alumni Services and the Department of Athletics.

Bonner Leaders Program Evolves with New Director and Members

The Bonner Leaders Program at Young Harris College continues to grow in membership this year, as six new members joined 14 returning students during the fall semester. The program also welcomed a new director, Joseph Pate, Ph.D., who additionally serves as director of academic service learning and instructor of service learning and outdoor leadership at YHC. "As the program's advisor, I want to support the College as we engage the community to address the diverse needs of its people, agencies and land," Dr. Pate said. Read more>> 

YHC First Year Foundations Course Introduces Peer Mentoring Component

This fall, Young Harris College's First Year Foundations program expanded to include 12 course sections and introduced a peer mentoring component that allows returning students to co-teach with faculty and staff. As part of the College's First Year Experience program, the FYF course aims to help new students understand what it takes to succeed in college. Read more>>  

YHC Theatre Major Lives Out "Broadway Dreams"

Young Harris College student T'Arica Crawford, a freshman theatre major from Buford, recently attended the Broadway Dreams Foundation's week-long Atlanta Summer Intensive at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta on a full scholarship. Featured on NBC, FOX and UPN Television, this premier workshop brings Broadway stars from around the globe to train actors who have their sights set on the Great White Way. Crawford was among a limited number of students to receive a full scholarship after submitting an audition video, letters of recommendation and an essay answering the question "What's your Broadway Dream?" Theatre Young Harris Announces 2012-2013 Season
Theatre Young Harris will present an exciting new lineup of performances for the 2012-2013 season. The season will be comprised of a four-show Mainstage Series and a three-show Studio Series, offering audiences a wide range of both classic and contemporary theatre and musical theatre productions. Midnight Madness Festivities Set for Oct. 11 at YHC

Young Harris College faculty, staff and students, along with community members, will get a first glimpse of the 2012-13 men's and women's basketball teams during Midnight Madness in the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center Arena on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 11 p.m. 

 

YHC Men's Basketball Team Takes on UGA for Season Opener, Nov. 2

The YHC men's basketball team will play their season opener in Athens, Ga., as the Mountain Lions meet the University of Georgia Bulldogs at the Stegeman Coliseum at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2. Tickets to the game are free and open to the public. Transportation to and from the game will be provided for students and season-ticket holders on a first-come, first-served basis for a small fee. More details will be announced soon.  

New and Returning Students Attend 2012 Student Organization and Local Business Fair   

More than 40 Young Harris College organizations and 12 businesses from the community participated in the 2012 Student Organization and Local Business Fair sponsored by the Office of Campus Activities and Student Government Association on Aug. 23. New and returning students enjoyed a barbecue on the plaza featuring live music and giveaways while familiarizing themselves with opportunities to get engaged on and off campus.
