When I attended Alumni Weekend at Young Harris College this past April, I was once again reminded of these words from our alma mater: "Tho' time may pass o'er these dear halls, we'll still come back to thee, And still we'll cherish mem'ries of our days at Y.H.C." Somehow it seemed as though it had only been a few days since I walked around that beautiful campus, and yet, in reality, it had been nearly 50 years! As a member of the Class of 1963, my memories are probably somewhat different than yours. I remember the chimes playing familiar hymns as we came out of the dining hall in the evening after eating veal cutlets or corn dogs (we didn't have them every night-it just seemed that way). We would then walk to the little post office and crowd in, hoping to get a letter from home. After that, I would attend vespers most nights-our "preacher" would usually be someone from the Ministerial Association. Of course, we had required Chapel two nights a week where they would have a real preacher.

Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Jodie Crome
In 2000, Toccoa native Jodie Crome, Pharm.D., '03, was faced with making a life-changing decision that befalls every high school senior: where to attend college. Still unsure of the right path to take, she decided to attend a college day event where a brochure for Young Harris College caught her eye. She found herself registering for an upcoming fall visitation day, not knowing that this decision would impact the rest of her life. "I immediately fell in love with the beautiful campus and super-friendly staff and students I met. The positive Christian atmosphere and small class sizes really drew me in," Dr. Crome recalled. "I knew Young Harris College was where I was meant to spend the first two years of my college experience, and I still believe there is no other place that could have been a better fit." Read more>>

Young Harris College Professor Emeritus of English and former Chair of the Division of Humanities Bettie Sellers is one of Georgia's most celebrated living poets. After 32 years of service at YHC, she retired in 1996. She has received many awards and accolades over the years, including the 1987 Governor's Award in the Humanities, the 2003 Stanley W. Lindberg Award and the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Georgia Writers Association. In 1997, she was named Poet Laureate of Georgia by then-governor Zell Miller, '51, a position she held for three years. She is a founding member of the Byron Herbert Reece Society, and YHC's annual Sellers Lecture Series was established in her honor at YHC. Find out what brought Sellers to Young Harris in 1965, some of her fondest memories at YHC, and why living in the north Georgia mountains continues to inspire her today. Read more>>
