Branching Out

  November 14th, 2011

Greetings!

treeThis Fall has been amazing, TreeUtah organized 10 wonderful tree planting events and planted 3,000 trees with the help of 1,000 volunteers!

In October we finished the planting season with a fun community event at the EcoGarden and Orchard. Thanks to the dedication of lots of wonderful volunteers the Fall Harvest Festival was a success.

On a different note, I am planning to move east and would like to thank TreeUtah for teaching me so much and for giving me this great opportunity to be an Americorps Intern. As my internship comes to an end I look back on all of the tremendous projects that I have been a part of and I am grateful for the experience. Thank you Amy, Vaughn, Alex, and Owen and I wish you all the best!

Warm Wishes,

Gena

TreeUtah's EcoGarden and Orchard
Another Wonderful Season

fall at gardenTreeUtah's EcoGarden and Orchard has become an amazing sanctuary this year for both human and wildlife visitors. The staff at the library have been very appreciative of how beautiful the EcoGarden and Orchard has become. We were able to host 4 workshops in conjunction with the library on topics to help individuals be able to create the same kind of sanctuaries in their own yards.

The Wasatch Community Garden Network chose to host their annual meeting at the EcoGarden and Orchard this September. In addition this year we hosted over twenty service day projects with wonderful volunteer groups such as the Marriott Vacations Club, United Way, and many more. TreeUtah is also very thankful for all the time that Eric Freeman has spent to help us care for the garden.

We culminated the season there with our Fall Harvest Festival. We look forward to expanding these ecological orchards to other community gardens in 2012.

On Saturday, October 22nd, the Fall Harvest Festival at TreeUtah's EcoGarden and Orchard in Rose Park was a wonderful community event. Over 150 local community members came to help celebrate trees and another successful planting year.

Carrie the Cottonwood, TreeUtah's new tree mascot, was introduced for the first time. Families joined us for pumpkin painting, pie-eating, three legged racing and lots of fun in the EcoGarden and Orchard.

A special thank you to Salt Lake Community College for collecting pumpkins and volunteering to be part of the festival! Thank you so much to all that attended the Festival, we hope to see you again.
