Dirty Hands, Wet Feet! By Supreet Gill
The "Trees for Eagles" education program started off on June 14th at the
Redwood Elementary School with a big bang. Six classes, over 80
students all excited to learn about nature and play in the outdoors.
Who knew getting dirty could be so much fun!
The courtyard at
the school in West Valley City has been transformed. Where there was a
huge area of weeds, now there is a beautiful strawberry patch. But
wait! Quietly nesting among the plants and shrubs is a Mother Goose and
her seven eggs. Filled with excitement and curiosity, the children
quietly planted the strawberries and happily shared their space with
another animal. What a perfect opportunity offered by the universe to
cultivate ecological awareness and respect for all life.
Students
will continue participating in hands on activities and have inspiring
experiences that integrate concepts of ecology for the next four weeks.
At the culmination of the four weeks, they will take a field trip to
the Redwood Natural Area to discover the amazing wetlands right in their
neighborhood. Another wonderful opportunity to spend a day in the
great outdoors getting hands dirty and feet wet!
We would like to
offer our deep gratitude for the generosity of spirit to Engh Gardens
for donating the strawberries and to Koty Shane for being a great
volunteer. We couldn't't have done it without you! |
