ARTreach Advisors report on the benefits of the arts and the importance of TCA

Over 30 advisors representing children at risk, special needs groups, senior citizens, elderly and disabled attended the ARTreach annual meeting to discuss the need for creative partnerships and collaborations to bring arts education to targeted neglected populations in Harris and Fort Bend County in 2012-13.

The meeting was hosted by the ARTreach Board of Directors and invited advisors representing social service, juvenile justice and school districts currently partnering with ARTreach to serve over 5000 students, clients and patients this year.

Many of ARTreach's agency and school district partners are receiving program support from the Texas Commission on the Arts. Chuck Winkler, Program Administrator/Education for Texas Commission on the Arts was in attendance to hear the reports. "I enjoyed hearing all of the reports about how the work we do supports the community. The fact that the arts have such a far-reaching and important impact on such a wide variety of people is inspiring and heart-warming."

Many of the attendees expressed a desire to help TCA with letters or calls. Click here to read more including a letter from Gary Gibbs about the Sunset Commission and how people can help.
