ART in the Park & All Aboard Katy!
ARTreach Projects in Partnership with Katy Heritage Society
ARTreach and the Katy Heritage Society have teamed to open the Heritage Arts Center and create a monthly event in Katy designed to revitalize the downtown area by drawing visitors with an appreciation for art and an interest in the history of Katy. Visitors to downtown Katy on the first Saturday of every month are enjoying "ART in the Park" at the Katy Heritage Park.
ART in the Park invites visitors to tour the beautiful Katy historic homes and enjoy a host of artists from the area displaying unique arts and crafts on the front porch of the Heritage Arts Center. The Arts Center welcomes professional and emerging artists who want to sell their art. ARTreach will host exhibitions for professsional artists at the Heritage Arts Center and ARTgallery as part of thier community outreach.
Visitors are able to view and purchase beautiful watercolors, charcoal drawings, pottery, jewelry, and fused glass with proceeds benefitting ARTreach Programs and the Katy Heritage Society. Art in the Park is a community event that is held the first Saturday of every month at the Katy Heritage Park located at 5990 George Bush Drive in Katy. The next ART in the Park event is June 6th.

ARTreach & Katy Heritage Society announces the debut of ALL ABOARD KATY! ALL ABOARD KATY!" is an exciting public art project that is intended to promote tourism, unite and identify the community, engage local businesses and artists and raise funds for the Katy Heritage Society and ARTreach. This is Katy's first large scale community public art initiative, and we are grateful to have the endorsement of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and Texas Commission on the Arts.
Trains are an important part of Katy's history and the art train program will be Katy's first large-scale community public art initiative. Public art projects raise community pride and cooperation between local citizens, businesses and government. Local artists receive recognition they might not otherwise receive and public art drives local and tourist traffic to sponsor locations.
Public art projects raise community pride and cooperation between local citizens, businesses and government. Local artists receive recognition they might not otherwise receive and public art drives local and tourist traffic to sponsor locations. We have received some great artist submissions from local artists, professionals and KISD students. These ideas are waiting for locomotive sponsors to sign on so we can begin placing the 9' locomotives this summer. This project will showcase local talent, increase the profile of Katy, emphasize the area's close ties with railway history and provide an opportunity to connect businesses and the cultural community. We are grateful to La Centerra at Cinco Ranch. La Centerra will host our 'roundhouse', the location where the locomotives will be stored while they are being decorated by artists. This location will allow the public to watch the project unfold, give artists a place to work on the trains and promote the sponsors even before the locomotives are installed.
Potential sponsors please call 281 391-2550 or email katyheritage@aol.com. Interested in painting a train? Artists email info@artreachonline.org.
Train renderings above are designed by Artist George Melchor, Veronica Cablentello, Brandon Lee, S. Buddenhagen, Sphie T-Romer, Erendria Jones, Isabella Fawcett-Jones |
