ART in the Park & All Aboard Katy!
ARTreach Projects in Partnership with Katy Heritage Society
ARTreach and the Katy Heritage Society have teamed to open the Heritage Arts Center and create a monthly event in Katy designed to revitalize the downtown area by drawing visitors with an appreciation for art and an interest in the history of Katy.   Visitors to downtown Katy on the first Saturday of every month are enjoying "ART in the Park" at the Katy Heritage Park.

ARTreach & Katy Heritage Society announces the debut of ALL ABOARD KATY!
ALL ABOARD KATY!" is an exciting public art project that is intended to promote tourism, unite and identify the community, engage local businesses and artists and raise funds for the Katy Heritage Society and ARTreach. This is Katy's first large scale community public art initiative, and we are grateful to have the endorsement of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and Texas Commission on the Arts.

Trains are an important part of Katy's history and the art train program will be Katy's first large-scale community public art initiative. Public art projects raise community pride and cooperation between local citizens, businesses and government. Local artists receive recognition they might not otherwise receive and public art drives local and tourist traffic to sponsor locations.

Public art projects raise community pride and cooperation between local citizens, businesses and government. Local artists receive recognition they might not otherwise receive and public art drives local and tourist traffic to sponsor locations. We have received some great artist submissions from local artists, professionals and KISD students. These ideas are waiting for locomotive sponsors to sign on so we can begin placing the 9' locomotives this summer.
This project will showcase local talent, increase the profile of Katy, emphasize the area's close ties with railway history and provide an opportunity to connect businesses and the cultural community. We are grateful to La Centerra at Cinco Ranch. La Centerra will host our 'roundhouse', the location where the locomotives will be stored while they are being decorated by artists. This location will allow the public to watch the project unfold, give artists a place to work on the trains and promote the sponsors even before the locomotives are installed.
Potential sponsors please call 281 391-2550 or email Interested in painting a train? Artists email

Within My Reach
Summer ART camp serves children with special needs
"Within My Reach" is an ARTreach program designed for students with special needs.   The 5-day camp helps students learn the art of ceramics, screen printing and expressive art techniques.   Each session is limited to 6 students per class and designed to enhance a student's fine and gross motor skills, expressive language and social skills.
After the students complete their projects their artwork will be displayed at the ARTreach Gallery for the community to see and purchase some of the student's artwork.
"The Within My Reach" program was developed to provide enrichment and introduce life skills to students with special needs", states Christine Stilwell, Development Director for ARTreach. "The Studio programs were developed by Terri Bieber, Executive Director of ARTreach along with Program Director Tess Thornton, Kelly Dillard and mseveral of our art specialists who have been working with students with special needs for many years. Special Needs teachers and volunteers are involved. The purpose of this program is for students to have fun and meet new friends, while learning unique skill sets that they can use throughout their lives."
The cost for the camp program is $80 per person and runs M-F 10:00am-12:00pm. Limited space is available for camps running in June. Private lessons and Within My Reach Workshops acan be reserved on Wednesdays in morning and afternoon timeslots. Family and Support Groups may register. Sponsorships are available for financially needy applicants.
"Within My Reach" camps and workshops are offered throughout the summer.   For more information or to register for a workshop or camp, please email us at: or call our office at 713-392-2021.
Thank you to Clint and Kathy Capshaw, Charles Schwab Charitable Trust Fund Steve Hauk, Steel Trading Corp of America, Robert and Debbie Stoddard, The Pregnancy Help Center, and Kathleen Rath for sponsoring children to attend classes this summer.
ARTreach is named by the Texas Association of Partners in Education (TAPE) as the Crystal Award winner for innovative art partnerships in Texas
The Texas Association of Partners in Education recognized ARTreach as the 2008-09 Crystal Award winner for innovative Art Partnerships in Fort Bend ISD. Children in FBISD benefitted this year from numerous ARTreach programs in underserved schools made possible by donations from the Fort Bend Junior Service League, Fort Bend Partnership for Youth, Houston Endowment and individuals from the Fort Bend County and Sugar Land area.
ARTreach was able to bring the arts to hundreds of children that would not have otherwise experienced the arts as a part of their everyday lives.  Special ARTreach Projects in Fort Bend ISD included a silk screening demonstation and workshop by Danny Russo of Young Audiences for the Around the World Art Club at Mission West, and and cultural arts presentations at Mission West and Townewest Elementary by percussionist Dan Egger-Belandria. Dan's presentation provided a unique opportunity for students to learn more about the evolution of western civilization and how it has inspired cultural development, social interaction and multicultural distinction within the United States. Both these program showed students how they are connected culturally, artistically and musically around the world.
