This retreat could be helpful:
To reconnect with your creative impulse
To express your feelings through art media
To explore your mind in an open-ended way
To energize your ability to think outside the box
To discover layers of your inner world

I received this question from an artist friend:

Lorena, My first instinct is to come to the workshop but I am under the impression that it is for beginning artists. Help me understand what this is about...

My answer:

It has nothing to do with artistic skill or experience at all. It is about exploring creativity and imagination with the help of tangible things, such as art materials, but it includes music, sound, movement...

The purpose of the workshop is to stimulate the finding and expressing of personal insights hidden in the non verbal, and then add words to that. It is intense imaginative play for grownups only, 18 and up.

The artistic object that comes out from each activity could be a good initial idea to be developed further later in the studio, for artists. Writers get exciting ideas for poems and other writings.

People who do not consider themselves artists usually come away with powerful insights into their own behavior in the world.

The workshop is also very useful in helping anyone release unwanted feelings, such as stress, anxiety, anger, sadness etc. by giving those emotions a tangible shape and by putting words to that representation in a non judgmental, non competitive atmosphere.

Aside from that, it is a nice opportunity to meet very interesting people.

The Katy Heritage Arts Center is a partnership between ARTreach and the Katy Heritage Society

ARTreach and the Katy Heritage Society have opened the doors to the Katy Heritage Arts Center in the Stockdick Home at Katy Hertiage Park. The Arts Center hosts cultural arts events every month and sells original artwork and unique crafts made by artists from Katy and around the world.

The Heritage Arts Center features many local artists including Marissa Vitola, Sony Hartley and Stacy Baer with unique hand thrown pottery and ceramics, and paintings by Elizabeth Bailey, Gail Rogers, Jill Brasher and Kathleen Wedemere. You can find handmade soaps by Michelle Hurd, and hand-knitted scarves and felt bowls by artist Maxine Rothman.

ARTreach also displays very unusual artwork created by children and adults involved in our  programs as far away as Africa, and here at home in Katy. On February 7th stop by and see valentine gifts created by the participants in our ARC of Katy Art & Business Program!

The Katy Hertiage Arts Center is open the first Saturday of every month, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with demonstrations, historical theater presentations and new artwork is on display.
All purchases benefit ARTreach Programs serving the elderly and special needs adults and children in Katy and the Katy Heritage Society community outreach programs.

On February 7th the Heritage Arts Center will celebrate Valentines; you'll find plenty of Art with Hearts and enjoy Katy musician and folksinger Michelle Mitchell singing her favorite ballads on the porch. D'Anne Craft will also be demonstrating weaving on a loom.

On March 7th, the Heritage Arts Center will feature artist Maxine Rothman returning with knitting lessons for the novice and an ARTreach Historical Theater presentation performed on the Tradition Band Stand at 2:00 PM
