Dear Friends,
I had a remarkable trip this past week as I traveled through Georgia. There is something about that state that will always be home. It has been my father's home state for six generations. It is very much "sacred space" to me and I love driving the country back-roads through farmland and small towns. What made this trip profound however was every encounter with friends and family. I was going to do the last premarital counseling for my nephew (I will be officiating his wedding on August 18 - pray for Kimberli and Easton). I stayed with Deacon Dick and Sandra and had a great time visiting with them. (Deacon Dick actually did most of the counseling or this soon to wed couple) The conversations and sharing were rich and I know God is at work.
I then stayed with and visited life long friends the O'Kelly's who have spent their lives on the mission field, most recently two years in Haiti. I was inspired by their simple witness to the goodness, mercy and provision of God in their calling. I hope they soon will be in our midst so you can catch some of their genuine faith. We pulled out the guitars and sang, we prayed and broke bread.
I then headed for a visit with a dear cousin that has been ill and is rehab after almost dying from a vicious strain of pneumonia. He is doing much better. We laughed and told family stories, we shared, spoke of faith and I prayed for Eddie anointing him with oil. Here we are... There were other moments, conversations and happenings as well. I share all this to say that I believe we are to live lives full of "divine appointments" - moments Almighty God gives us with people, where in our sharing and being together we simply touch the eternity. I however know that I do not always take time to recognize and too quickly these moments slip through my hands unnoticed. So I bid us to be intentional, look for opportunities to be with people; to speak of the love of Jesus, pray, laugh, sing and more for in doing so we turn this world into the Kingdom of God, a place full of love, joy and peace. This is "Incarnational Ministry" Jesus working in us and through us to love people and in doing so we share the Good News of God in Christ...
in the mission,
