PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK...
The Collect for the 5th Sunday after Pentecost / Proper 8
Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.Amen.
For Independence Day...
Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
For General Convention
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel at our General Convention for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dear Friends,
A busy week for many of us and with the holiday I would ask as you gather to take a moment and pray for our nation (there is a prayer from the Book of Common Prayer in the left column). These are difficult days as we struggle in this economy, many have lost jobs, homes, and more so HOPE. May God give us grace for us to see how truly blessed we are as citizens of this great nation.
Below is a moment forever etched in my memory. England held a memorial service in St. Paul's Cathedral in London following the 9/11 attacks. (I have visited that grand cathedral many times) In that service these allies sang our national anthem. I was moved to tears and had chills when I watched live nearly eleven years ago and seeing it again stirs something in me even now. May it bless you as well.
