Dear Friends,
We move into the summer months: school is out, many will take vacations; some will take on projects in the garden or for the house. This week alone seven staff members at Canterbury are away for a variety of reasons. The summer pace changes, it slows for many and summer days of leisure offer us a different cadence by which to mark the journey.
I hope in these days we will consider our calling in Christ. In the church year we have entered what we term as "ordinary time". This season that will carry us all the way to Advent on the first Sunday in December. During these days we contemplate the way in which we live for Christ day by day; how we serve, give, share and participate in the Kingdom of God. There are places to pitch in, things to do. You and I are empowered by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to the love of God to a world that is desperate for Good News. We do this by every day actions of love and mercy. May Almighty God show us what and where and how in this ministry of proclamation. Notice I did not say "when" for the time is now to rise up and enter the mission field for it is ready for a harvest. From Sunday lessons we heard in the passage from Isaiah (6:8)...
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I; send me!" He sends us, you and me. May God give us grace to be ready at all times to give account for the hope that is within us. (1 Peter 3:15)
in the mission,
