Dear Friends,
What a grand time we had at Canterbury on Saturday night celebrating the ministry of our Bishop, The Rt. Rev. John W. Howe. Incarnation gave him a gift of hospitality and servant-hood and I know it blessed him and his family deeply. I am amazed in these moments and it affirms to me why Incarnation is at Canterbury. Let me offer my sincere thanks for the landscaping and cleaning, the set-ups and moving of furniture and more around the campus, to servers and cooks, and the list could go on of those who gave joyfully to this enterprise. Many churches apart from their function as a worshiping community have significant ministries: for example; schools, day care facilities, homeless shelters, retirement homes and more. These are a means of grace to the communities in which we live. We at Incarnation have the unique calling to steward a conference center. When a church has a ministry like this, it is not necessarily a call to everyone to be engaged in the specific ministry. In churches where I served previously there were church schools and maybe 30% of the congregation was involved in this ministry. There are many of ways to serve Christ and many ministries to be a part of at Incarnation. Just because we are at Canterbury does not mean every member is expected to plug in to ministry of Canterbury (it is not everyone's call). However it is hoped that every member can find a place to share their gifts and skills, their talents and treasures in our life together as a church contributing to the mission of the church in Oviedo. Whether it is altar guild or christian formation, special events like pageants and dinners or music and worship, outreach (once again it could be a long list) we all are called to as a pastor friend put it, start where we are, with what we got and do what we can. This will be expanded in the next few months as we relaunch commissions to help us organize and function fruitfully in a variety of areas. Opportunities will abound and there will be many places to offer yourself to the Lord. May God continue to order our steps and lead us... in the mission,
