Dear Friends,
I spoke on Sunday of Mary as THEOTOKOS and that this is our calling as well. (CLICK HERE for the Audio of the sermon) Theotokos means "God bearer" and just as Mary bore Jesus into the world and the Eternal Son of Glory took on human flesh He now incarnates himself in us the church - the people of God, He clothes himself in humanity by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer and we in turn bear Jesus to the world. I hope you will consider how in this last week of Advent you will bear Jesus to friends and family, fellow workers and students and in doing so guide people people to behold a miracle in Bethlehem - Jesus born to save and redeem. This idea is expressed in a chorus of a favorite Christmas Carol...
O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
our Lord Emmanuel!
May God grant us grace in the journey and may He find us faithful in each moment...
in the mission,
Father Jon+
