Dear Friends,
We had a tremendous Healing Conference at Canterbury the past few days. I am reminded of the messianic prophecy from Isaiah 61:1-3...
"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives, And freedom to prisoners; To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."
Jesus uses this passage speaking of himself in Luke 4 and it becomes true of his followers as we extend the rule and reign of Christ's Kingdom in this world. We witnessed this ministry profoundly as lives were transformed, light vanquished the darkness, physical and emotional wounds were healed and people were set free. This is the ministry of every Christian and every church. Ultimately every congregation is a healing center in this broken world. May we be faithful to walk in this calling.
One of the highlights of the conference was on Saturday, a woman had a major breakthrough in the Lord. She had never been baptized - it was a moment of faith, new birth, life and more as she took hold of Christ and the Lord Jesus took hold of her. Immediately after she was baptized her 2 year old daughter joined her with other family and friends and her precious child was baptized too.
This moment by itself sums up our calling: to proclaim the good News of Christ Jesus and the Kingdom of God, calling people to repent and believe, to be transformed by the Holy Spirit into a new creation. This was a tangible, visible moment someone joining the church, renouncing death, darkness and sin and embracing life and faith, forgiveness, hope and love.
It was a clear glimpse of the Kingdom of God and why God has brought Incarnation to be and why he has yoked us to Canterbury! Join me...
