As we make ready to celebrate Independence Day may we give thanks for many things; this nation and the freedom and prosperity we enjoy. Let us not forget to pray for those who serve us by defending the freedom we enjoy. (There are a couple of prayers to offer below from the Book of Common Prayer)

I cannot contemplate freedom without thinking of what Christ has done for me. "Jesus said, If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free... So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:32 & 36 )
We were bound, held captive by sin and death and Jesus comes as our liberator setting us free. May we celebrate that freedom as well knowing the truth of Jesus and the freedom he brings.

Collect for Independence Day July 4
Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this
country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the
torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and
all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our
liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Thanksgiving For Heroic Service
O Judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful
hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of
decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant
that we may not rest until all the people of this land share the
benefits of true freedom and gladly accept its disciplines. This
we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
