Collect for the Fourth Sunday in Easter

O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Friends,

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is widely known as "Good Shepherd Sunday" Jesus has many titles: Lord: Savior; Redeemer; King; The Way, The Truth, the Life; Alpha and Omega (beginning and end); Bread of Life; Son of Man; Son of God; and the list could go on.  He is celebrated this day as  the Good Shepherd, one who cares for, provides for and protects the sheep of His fold.

In this world we can be bruised, beaten down, wounded, attacked, and struggle for survival. That which we seek - that which our hearts long for - the peace and security to simply be, comes in one place... when we submit our lives, all that we are, to the care of the Good Shepherd and believe in Jesus to provide for our lives.   It may sound simple. You may think
there should be more. As disciples and followers of Jesus we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in being transformed and changed - we yield to the the process of sanctification. It involves decisions to sacrifice and serve.  Paul puts it this way in Philippians 1:6

"For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

God is doing a work in us so He can do a work through us.   We will not find safety and security by our own means and effort.  We find it in living a life in close proximity to the Shepherd of our Souls; the safety and security which is given by grace in Christ Jesus.

Father Jon+
