Dear Friends,
We are blessed to be a blessing. From the Old Testament Lesson for Sunday...
The Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing." Genesis 12:1-4
As we think about our Lenten journey we are headed for a promised land, a land of provision and a place filled with the covenant presence of Almighty God. This passage speaks of making Abraham a great nation. When I hear 'Great Nation" what comes to mind is a "Super Power", a mighty and powerful army, strong and prosperous. This is not what this passage is referring to. Nation here has its foundational understanding in the sense of a "people group" - a culture where people are connected and speak the same language. I believe if we apply this promise to us(a proper application), God in our journey through Lent and as we follow Him day by day is making us a great nation in Oviedo, Winter Springs and beyond. He is crafting in us a community of people, connected to Himself and one another, who have dedicated themselves to obedience and discipleship, a people transformed and made new, a people who speak the language of love.
We are blessed as the people of God, we benefit personally by sitting under the rule and reign of Christ Jesus. However that is not the end. I believe God has positioned us by His grace to not merely receive His blessing but rather to be a conduit for His goodness, mercy, peace, strength - His very presence to flow through us into a world desperate for Good News.
My prayer this Lent is that we would be all we are suppose to be. We would discover anew day by day the depth of His love. We sing a chorus from time to time a friend of mine Al Holley wrote:
Let your love flow from me let it flow
Let your love flow from me let it flow
May your Word richly dwell in this heart of mine.
Let your love flow from me let it flow
We were reminded Sunday of the richness of God's Word. There is blessing in God's Word and when we read, learn, mark and inwardly digest the scriptures we discover again the very blessing of God's covenant love and it fuels us in this life to live as channel of God's love to the world. This is the reason we are...
