Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Bishop Nicholas visits Incarnation
nicholas
                Lauren, Saint Nicholas & Blake

Dear Friends,

A full weekend (aren't they all!).  We hosted our first "First Friday" retreat and it was a wonderful time of reflection and contemplating our relationship with God.  The next one is scheduled for February 4-5 and there is information in the column - hope you will consider joining us for these moments of oasis and refreshing of faith, hope and love.  We also had the Bishop's Christmas Open House on Saturday evening and it was a grand time of fellowship, great food and more.

One of the highlights of our weekend was having Saint Nicholas visit us and share his story at services on Sunday.  The simple reminder to us that Christmas is about giving was profound.  I echo Bishop Nicholas' charge to all of us to look for ways in which we can give to others over the next few weeks especially.  (see the news column on the left and Christmas in the City announcement if you need some specific ideas)  In all of this it is proclaiming by "word and deed" the Gospel to folks with kindness, mercy, clarity and love. (more on this on Sunday)

Today December 6th is St. Nicholas Day and the collect found in Lesser Feasts and Fasts for Bishop Nicholas  is worth pondering...

Almighty God, in your love you gave your servant Nicholas of Myra a perpetual name for deeds of kindness both on land and sea: Grant, we pray, that your Church may never cease to work for the happiness of children, the safety of sailors, the relief of the poor, and the help of those tossed by tempests of doubt or grief; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I want to commend to you again our good friend Dean Rick Lobs continuing thoughts on Advent that can fuel us in our journey to Bethlehem ( Click Here )

The joyful season continues with Dick Costin's ordination to the Diaconate this coming Saturday, December 11th at 3:00pm at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke.   On Sunday, December 12th at the 11:00am service we will have a Celebration of New Ministry for Dick with a reception to follow. Please pray for Dick and others to be ordained this week.

Preparation for the Christmas Pageant is underway and you can click here for information from Heather Starr who is directing this year.

May you have a blessed week in Jesus!  I am yours...

in the mission of the Kingdom,
Fr. Jon
