Dear Friends,
We continue to move forward in mission and ministry. We recently had a Canterbury Board Meeting that had some of the vestry and leadership from Incarnation as well as Bishop Howe and some diocesan staff in attendance. It was an opportunity for me to share the vision for Canterbury and Incarnation as we move forward together. This enterprise is larger than any single entity and ultimately both Canterbury and Incarnation are agents / ministries of the diocese, serving the Lord Jesus at the pleasure of the Bishop an extension of his ministry.
We share a common vision. Canterbury and Incarnation seek to advance the Kingdom of God in this world and we each do this in different ways: Canterbury as a conference center and as a place for spiritual growth and Christian hospitality; Incarnation as a church calling people to live out their baptismal covenant.
The question comes to us how do we do this together and how do we define this relationship. There are lots of models: a business partnership; a team with a coach; a merger and more. As I have contemplated this, the idea of marriage comes to mind. Two distinct identities joining together in a common life by covenant. We will share resources and assets, with mutual submission, affection, respect and honor knowing that together we are better and more whole. It is a beautiful picture of stewardship.

The workings of this marriage will be defined in the weeks and months ahead. It is a vision of greater impact for the Kingdom - seeing Almighty God enter the hearts and lives of folks by what we do. It is calling people to faith in Christ Jesus and walking with them to experience the abundant life of healing, wholeness and joy that is ours in the Holy Spirit. Pray for this process that both Canterbury and Incarnation will succeed in accomplishing their shared and unique purposes in Christ. Opportunities abound to enter...
