Dear Friends,
Thanks for the prayers I felt them as I had a full week teaching a seminary class on worship. It was a good week and I think I learned more than the students. :-)
Last week at our vestry meeting after a healthy and productive discussion we landed on a schedule for our mornings come late August. As we add a second service and consider our Christian Formation offerings we will have the following schedule for worship:
8:30am - first service (target 1 hour & 15 minutes)
9:45am - coffee & fellowship /
transition to Christian Formation
10:00am - Christian Formation begins including:
3 adult offerings; a youth class;
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 & 2
10:55am - Christian Formation for adults and youth ends
11:00am - Second Service (target 1 hour & 15 minutes)
11:30am - Catechesis of the Good Shepherd ends
children staying for the second service
transition into worship at the "Peace"
This schedule is a little more detailed than what we will publish which will simply be:
8:30am - First Service
10:00am - Christian Formation
11:00am - Second Service
There will be a few more details to work out and some of that will be done for Christian Formation Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, July 12, 6:30pm at Canterbury.
The plan includes the two services being somewhat identical in terms of length, music and preaching. We will add the second service beginning on August 22 and that Sunday and the following (8/29) we will have a ministry fair between the services as we premiere Church of the Incarnation meeting at Canterbury to the community. Christian Formation classes will begin on Sunday, September 12th.
After much prayer, discussion and investigation the vestry and leadership (myself included) believes this will position us for growth and reaching more people with the Good News of Jesus.
Over the next couple of months there is much to be done as we prepare. There are physical projects to be done at Canterbury in terms of repairing the road and defining some parking. Additionally by adding the second service and expanding our Christian Formation offerings we need more volunteers for Altar Guild, Flower Guild, Acolytes, assistants in the Catechesis, Chalice Ministers, Ushers, Greeters, Hospitality and more. So now is the time to step up, find a ministry and pitch in and in doing so, I know as we give our time and energy we will be blessed and be a blessing to others.
Finally there is a project that will require a little sweat equity as we prepare to receive Pastor Robin and her family into the Incarnation fold. The home where they will live at Canterbury needs some cosmetic work (painting / landscaping and such) If you are interested and want to volunteer contact me via email and we will plug you in to the effort. jon@incarnationoviedo.com
These are exciting days as we live into our new home at Canterbury and as we hope to see the Kingdom of God expand in us and through us in this new season of ministry.
in the Mission,
Fr. Jon
