Dear Friends,
Jesus is the Good Shepherd and I commend to you the wonderful sermon preached by Dr. Carla Waterman at Incarnation on Sunday (CLICK HERE). As we move forward in mission and ministry it is in confidence knowing the love and provision Almighty God. He has made himself known to us as a Shepherd tending every need of our lives. He urges us onward in the journey to proclaim with passion the Good News of salvation to a world lost in sin. As Carla reminded us we are safe and secure in His hands and nothing can ever separate us from the Love of God in Christ.
This past week I was in Nashville at a pastor's conference with some good friends and I was reminded that two aspects of our faith journey are that of WORD and SPIRIT. Some folks live with an "either / or" emphasis when in reality we need both. We need to be grounded in the Word of God and powered by the Holy Spirit. These things fuel mission, revival, and transformation and without a balance we fail. R. T. Kendall reminded me how Jesus rebuked the Saducees in Matthew 22:29... But Jesus answered them, You are wrong, because you know neither the
Scriptures nor the power of God.
This should be a reminder to us to devote ourselves to the study of scripture as Colossians 3:16 encourages... May the Word of God dwell in you richly. At the same time we should earnestly seek the Lord in prayer knowing that it is... "'In him we live and move and have our being';" (Acts 17:28)
May this be a week where we are growing in our knowledge, peace, love and power of our Risen Lord!
In the
mission,
Fr. Jon+
