Dear Friends,
As we move forward in mission and ministry I am encouraged to see the congregation engaged in worship, fellowship and service. There are challenges ahead but I see God binding us to one another in His love and building a community of faith by which our witness to the world is simply our love for one another. (John 13:35) I am sure there are lots of reasons to attend church but ultimately it is centered around the Great Commandment - Loving God and Loving others. (Matthew 22:37-39) Among the marks of a disciple of Jesus is this call to be kind, merciful, compassionate, forgiving, sincere, gentle - all of which are expressions of LOVE.
In this Easter season let us endeavor in particular to be loving toward one another - looking out not just for our own needs and interests but looking out for each other. It is a picture that comes from Philippians 2...
"So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Philippians 2:1-4)
Let us be intentional, asking: "How can I help?"; "What can I do for you?"; "What is it you need?". It is one thing to attend church it is another thing to join a people and walk with them in faith, hope and love - may we be the latter.
