Dear Friends,
I find myself turning my focus toward Holy Week. I guess that is normal as there is much preparation. More than the details I sense my heart and life preparing to walk again and afresh the path that leads to our redemption. We journey through the passion of Jesus, to His cross, into darkness and death and on the other side we find life and light.
I am finding moments of meditation as I consider deeply what Christ has accomplished for me. In preparation for this Sunday's sermon. I have been reading the parable commonly called the Prodigal Son. It is an amazing story that Jesus tells in Luke 15. The details and the various "turns" in this drama have captured me more so right now - much more in previous readings of this text. I am finding in it my story. (more on this on Sunday)
Martin Luther writes... This
life, therefore, is not godliness but the process of becoming godly, not health
but getting well, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not now
what we shall be, but we are on the way. The process is not yet finished, but
it is actively going on. This is not the goal but it is the right road. At present, everything
does not gleam and sparkle, but everything is being cleansed.
I am not sure how your "lent" is going. Have you taken on disciplines? ..."given up" things? Are you failing? ...succeeding? Regardless you still have time, start now, start afresh the journey to behold How Great a Salvation has been won for us in Almighty God by Christ Jesus. Enter this process of transformation. Come to the Centrality Study on Wednesday evenings; join in the midweek - Eucharist; pray; give; serve; engage - You will be glad you did.
In the mission,
Fr. Jon+
