Dear Friends,
Jim Elliot was a missionary who gave his life for the sake of a people who did not know Christ. I found this prayer by him and used it at the conclusion of my sermon on Sunday...
God, I pray Thee, light these idle sticks of my life and may I burn for Thee. Consume my life, my God, for it is Thine. I seek not a long life, but a full one, like you, Lord Jesus. Amen
There is a calling in following Christ, we are called to give all we are for the sake of the Kingdom of God. In the parables of Jesus, people trade all their worldly wealth for the Kingdom (a treasure in the field, the pearl of great price) We pray in the Lord's Prayer, Thy Kingdom Come - I have to admit there are many times those are just words and yet there are other times when I ache for the Kingdom to be established, the rule and reign of Christ Jesus in this broken and battered world. I believe our chief calling at Incarnation is to be a people focused on the Kingdom of God and to bear witness to the love, joy, peace, hope and life that is ours as citizens of the Kingdom.
I hope you will join me in praying this prayer that our lives would be consumed with a desire for God and to know Jesus and to see His Kingdom established in us and through us.
A Few Things...
