Collect for the week Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of
eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy
Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of
the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. +++++++++++++++++++ Readings for Trinity Sunday / June 7th Isaiah 6:1-8 Canticle 13

"And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."" (Acts 1:4-5)

Dear Friends,
What does it mean to be Baptized in the Holy Spirit? My sense from scripture and what I have witnessed in the church is to be yielded to God to a point of overflowing. This overflow manifests itself in the gifts of the Spirit, wisdom, knowledge, prophecy, healing, miracles, speaking in tongues. The greatest expression of the Holy Spirit at work in someone's life is love.
When a person exudes the love of God by their words and actions, their kindness, compassion, generosity you are seeing the Holy Spirit at work. I have known people so full of kindness they melt an ice cold room of people simply by walking through the door. I have seen folks who were strangers having no natural point of connection bind themselves together in Christ setting out on Kingdom mission.
How do we experience this depth of manifestation... I heard a friend say - "We get under the spout, where the Spirit runs out!" That is we immerse ourselves in the things of the church, (in no particular order) the Word of God, the Sacraments, the Fellowship of the Saints, Prayer, Devotion, Worship, Obedience. These things make us vessels and conduits receptive to the Spirit.
As I said on Sunday: The work of the Holy Spirit in a person's life is obvious, desirous and dangerous as it will transform us into mighty men and women of God bound to King Jesus in love seeing the Kingdom Come; to us, in us and through us. There is no greater adventure this side of glory!
