Collect for the week O God, you have prepared
for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding:
Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all
things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all
that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. +++++++++++++++++++ Readings for Sunday / May 24th - The 7th Sunday of Easter Psalm 1

"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends"

Dear Friends,
From my sermon on Sunday, I am chewing on the following quote I used from Eugene Peterson...
The Gospel message says: "You don't live in a mechanistic world ruled by necessity; you don't live in a random world ruled by chance; you live in a world ruled by the God of Exodus & Easter. He will do things in you that neither you nor your friends would have supposed possible."
God is doing a wonderful work in us and it is about reconciliation, life and love. We are brought close, restored and renewed by love. When by grace we recognize our need for Christ we begin a process of being made whole. When we see our brokenness then by faith we can see our need for a Savior who binds up and heals broken things. When we see our emptiness and are parched, bone dry; we get soaked in a well of Living Water that will never run dry and fills us to overflowing.
Everyday I believe God invites us to experience more of Himself and the Kingdom Life He desires for us as His children. How will you and I respond? I hope with a resounding YES!!! and by doing so enter life abundant in Jesus.
An opportunity to go deeper... Carolyn Custis James will be leading a retreat at Canterbury June 5 & 6 (details in the column. The Topic is "When Life and Beliefs Collide" from one of her excellent books. I commend this to all of you as a means of spiritual growth. A few worship notes... This Thursday is Ascension Day a major feast day in the church year and one worth noting. I will hopefully tickle your interest with this... "Without the Ascension our redemption is not complete, it is as important as the Incarnation (Christmas), Good Friday and Easter Morning in securing our salvation. THUS: We will have an Ascension Day Eucharist on Thursday May 21, at 6pm at the Mission House. We had previously announced a dinner with this service but with as busy as we have been we will not do the dinner officially - (some of us may decide on going out to dinner following the service)
We will also be taking a break from Morning Prayer suspending those service for the summer beginning on this Thursday May 21 (no MP that day) and we will resume on the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 8th.
Living where blessings abound! The Rev. Jon Davis+ / Vicar |
