COLLECT FOR
THE WEEK

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. The Centrality of the Cross
                      B&W IONA CROSS
Dear Friends,

I have to say - last week was wonderfully rich and full. Pancakes on Tuesday; Ash Wednesday Services;  The Bishop's Lenten Retreat at Canterbury on Friday and Saturday and a spirit-filled morning at Incarnation on Sunday; all of these things make me realized how blessed I am in this calling.

The week ahead is one of promise too: Kingdom Prayer begins on Wednesday evening; I will be speaking at a local vestry retreat for a close friend - (getting to brag about Incarnation); David Teems, my (our) good friend ministering Saturday night and Sunday in our midst. In all of these things there is much to gain in Christ Jesus.

As I think about this season of Lent I am drawn in all of these endeavors and more to ponder the Cross of Christ.  I have been ruined by Mike Atkins' magnificent teaching on this topic and yet day by day I discover new truths about the Centrality of the Cross in my own life and in our shared life as a community of faith.  John Stott in his masterful work the Cross of Christ writes...

"From Jesus' youth, indeed even from his birth,
the cross cast its shadow ahead of him."

It makes me think this is true for all of us who follow Jesus as Lord and Savior.  The Cross is before us especially in this season of Lent, casting a shadow.  May we continue to contemplate more deeply the love, justice, hope and redemption that is ours because of the Cross.

Peace and Grace,
Jon+  /  Vicar
