Collect for the Week
Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Prayers for the nation...

epsicopal shield

Dear Friends,

In a little over a week we will witness the inauguration of a new president.  Four members (that I know of) will be in attendance; Kaleb Nelson, Philip Cockerham, Jose and Heather Rodriguez, please pray for their safe travel to Washington.  There are many challenges that await this new administration and congress as well as our state and local government leaders. A difficult economy; wars and conflicts around the globe; terror threats; a need for energy solutions; these are just a few of the challenges to greet President Obama when he takes his oath of office.  Regardless your political leanings I want to urge us to pray for our government. Scripture commends us to do this.  There are many great prayers in the Book of Common Prayer that speak profoundly to the needs and concerns of the nation  (pages 810-841 - there are other prayers worth praying in those pages too)   Two that particularly caught my attention...

For our Country
Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue
with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the President of the United States and all in Civil Authority
O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We commend this nation to thy merciful care, that, being guided by thy Providence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant to the President of the United States, the Governor of this State, and to all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

May God pour his blessing upon this nation and make us a means of His grace and truth in this world.

Peace and Grace,
Jon+  /  Vicar
Lenten Retreat with Bishop Howe

Bishop Howe will be conducting his second annual Lenten Retreat at Canterbury Retreat and Conference Center, February 27 / 28.  The topic is How To Give Away Your Faith.  Bishop Howe is a gifted teacher and we will be challenged by him to effectively and articulately share the faith once received.  I hope you decide to make this part of your Lenten discipline - it promises to be a renewing experience of our mission and calling in Christ Jesus to go into all the world and proclaim the Good News.  Commuter rates are available.  For more details and to register please check the following website...  Bishop Howe / Lenten Retreat

Annual Meeting and Vestry elections...

On January 25th as a part of our 10:30am service we will hold our annual meeting.  We will hear reports on our progress as a church and on our development of a building plan for the property.  We will share a budget for 2009 with the congregation that the Administration and Finance Commission created and the vestry approved.

We will also be electing new vestry members.  As a mission, our vestry is actually appointed by the Bishop and we will submit the names of folks elected for his consideration.  We will be electing five vestry members.  Three people to new three year terms and two people to two year terms to fill vacancies by left folks who needed to resign for personal reasons.   To be on the vestry you must be a confirmed member of the mission in good standing and a giver of record to the church.   Brad Crandell and Ed Ghiglieri were appointed to fill the terms that were vacated and are eligible to stand for election again.   If you have any questions or would like to nominate someone (you can nominate yourself) please contact either myself  jon@incarnationoviedo.com / 321-436-8006  or our Senior Warden, Dick Costin rcostin@cfl.rr.com /  407-212-2718.  Please pray the leadership of the mission as we move forward in ministry.
