Studio News
by Jack Rinehart
Thank you to for taking time to look at our newsletter. The
newsletter combines many words to bring our messages to you. Finding words that
create a stimulating newsletter can be difficult. Finding time to get our newsletters finished is just as difficult with our hectic shooting schedule!
Here at Photo
Source we have created some new shooting space. We
have converted an area to permit for "vignette" set shots that may
require an office look, a lab, maybe a home-care setting, or whatever requiring
a natural setting in a room space. The area features carpeting, a simulated
hardwood floor, doors, desks, etc. We are excited to get this space into
production.
For the first client that utilizes the space we will make a
donation to the charity of your choice in the amount of $100 and feature an
image from that shoot in our next newsletter!
At the beginning of 2009 we
put two new pieces of lighting equipment into use, a very large 4X4 foot, flat
surfaced boom light, and a little brother to that unit which measures about 2X3
feet. These two North Light units permit for outstanding highlight control in
highly reflective surfaces, where traditional soft box modifiers just
can't measure up.
Our commitment to staying up to date with technology
found the studio obtaining a new Mac Pro G5 8 Core machine with 14 gigs of ram.
We are using this machine in the main studio and it certainly has the build to
make our work-flow run very efficiently. 2009 has us using a lot of words that
we haven't used much before, like vignette, North Light, Mac speed and of
course one word that I know we don't use frequently
enough....THANK-YOU, for all of the assignments entrusted to us. We remain
dedicated to bringing you the finest in image making.

Meet Our Intern - David Kovaluk by: David KovalukBy the time you read this, I will officially be a graduate of Webster University with a degree in photography. Call it trite, but the path has certainly been unpredictable. I began college as an industrial design major at the Cleveland Institute of Art. In my second year there, I began moving in a different direction, discovering a new aspect to my visual creativity. I began to seriously consider photography as a career path.
Imagery is one of, if not the, most powerful elements of human culture. From the beginning of communication, there was imagery. It is what influences, drives, and inspires us.
Even since joining the team at Photo Source, my desire for what I want out of photography has been further articulated. It has been an excellent experience to work here and the time has been invaluable. I have gained a lot of technical and conceptual knowledge working in the studio with Jack, Jess, and Theresa. I'm extremely grateful for them.
At this time I am exploring possibilities in grants and internships, as well as jobs but like everything else, this is a process. I know things can change and always am on the lookout for more information to learn. I will always in some way be a student. I am eager to "get out there" and begin. It is an honor to have the opportunity to contribute to the photographic legacy.

Spring Cleaning at PS HQ
The air is clear. The birds are singing. The flowers are in bloom. Now is the time for cleaning. Here at Photo Source, we have a big spring cleaning project this year. The prop room! For those of you who have seen our prop room you know this is no small task as it is in great need of reorganization. We have begun the strategy and planning phase of the project and have decided to relocate the prop room to the Studio B area to allow for more room (our prop supply seems to be ever growing), to better utilize the space and to create a more efficient workflow when shooting with props in the studio.
The amount of clothing in our prop inventory has increased dramatically, so coming up with a solution that will accommodate that without taking up too much space is going to be a challenge. A trip to Organized Living will definitely be in order as we will need multiple levels of hanging space, additional shelving, and plenty of storage containers to house everything. We love a clean, Zen, streamlined look so we want to give everything a home. Hopefully this will make things go quicker for our clients too as we will not have to spend time 'hunting' things down. We hope to create a more visible display of dishes, flatware, and linens to make it easier for our clients to select from during food photography shoots. The rest of the area will house the items you never knew you needed like a leopard print cowboy hat, a Macintosh IICi, or bird feet slippers. Watch The Source Newsletter for before and after pictures.
