Dear Tales & Scales Enthusiasts,
This newsletter marks a new chapter for Tales & Scales - We are entering the digital age! This e-newsletter replaces our bi-annual print newsletter many of you received in the past. While we are very excited about this change, the transition presents a few challenges for us. We have many of your email addresses, but we are still missing some of our supporters' email addresses. We don't want anyone to miss out on this exciting news from Tales & Scales, so please forward this e-newsletter to your friends and encourage them to subscribe to our email updates!
Sincerely,
Mary Dicken Managing Director Tales & Scales

Tri-State School Tour
08-09 school year off to a great start!
"Thank
you Tales & Scales for sharing hands on strategies for teachers in
your student workshops, presenting the layered complexities of the bullying
issue in The Little Dragon performance, and linking Holy Redeemer
students to the world of imagination in our total experience of Tales
& Scales. Thank you for encouraging us to be more effective
teachers"
~Marianne Webster, principal Holy Redeemer School
We are so excited about the 2008-2009 school year! Earlier this month, we launched our school tour with A Day of Tales & Scales
at Holy Redeemer School in Evansville. This year, we
are touring a classic Tales & Scales show to schools throughout southwestern Indiana and the Tri-State area - The Little Dragon! In partnership with the Evansville Courier & Press, we presented a 4-part series about The Little Dragon in the Young Reader Services section of the paper. This series, based on our study guide, was designed for schools to use in preparation for our visits. We are also thrilled to bring schools our nationally-acclaimed workshops and residencies designed specifically for young people and educators. This
year, many schools are taking advantage of our companion workshops,
allowing their young learners to go beyond simple exposure to the
performing arts by experiencing the creative process themselves. All inquiries about in-school performances and workshops can be
directed to Mary Dicken at (812) 425-8741 or info@talesandscales.org.

Imagine That!
An Arabian Night with Tales & Scales
Fundraising event a resounding success!
Tales & Scales enthusiasts gathered on September 27 in the very home of story - Evansville's Central Library - to enjoy a silent auction bazaar and a feast beyond compare with magical entertainment throughout the evening by the new musictellers of Tales & Scales! Special thanks goes to guest MC Mark Miller for making our night extra fun (as only Mark can do) and to all who attended!
Please join us in a MAJOR THANK YOU to our generous sponsors, the Imagine That! event committee and especially to event chair Becky Edwards, who lovingly led us in successfully raising over $13,000 towards supporting Tales & Scales programs and workshops in our schools, libraries and community centers! The scrumptious feast was generously donated and prepared by Cindy Bernardin, Jingle Hagey, Lowry Igleheart-Keach, and Cindy Howard.

Camp Imagination!2008 summer camp held at UE a big hit
Our 15th annual Camp Imagination was our most successful camp yet! Offered in partnership with the University of Evansville's Department of Music, over 200 campers worked collaboratively with Tales & Scales artists, staff and fellow campers to develop and exercise every aspect of imagination! Each day was filled with music, story, theater, and creative movement games, all culminating into dynamic original dragon-themed stories that were performed for over 500 family members and friends at the end of each week of camp July 11th & 18th.
Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, over 20 full camp scholarships for disadvantaged youth were distributed through the YMCA, Carver Community Organization, Patchwork Central, Boom Squad, Inc., Trinity United Methodist Church and Lampion Center. We would like to extend special thanks to our Camp Imagination Fund donors, our sponsors - Vectren, UE Department of Music, and Schmitt Photo - and our in-kind donors who provided services, snacks and prizes.
