Customers have never had so much information or so many options. In such a dynamic environment, customers have access to a plethora of information (literally) at their fingertips! CEOs are making "getting connected" to customers their highest priority to better predict and provide customers with what they really want and stay competitive. 

 

Our 2012 Complexity Series episode on Customer Relations Part 1 was streamed live on April 19th, from Kingbridge Conference Centre & Institute in King City, Ontario. Our special guest, Brenda Higuchi, VP of Strategy & Analytics at Aimia Inc. shared her expertise on customer loyalty. Brenda was joined by Corner Office Explorers, Debra Pickfield and Jean Letourneau to create an interactive and insightful episode! This episode is now available for viewing.

 

Part 2 of Customer Relations will be broadcast live on May 24th, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EDT. Joining us is Herman Tange, Chief Sales and Treasury Officer of ING Direct. Herman will share his insight on how to build customer intimacy when you're a virtual company. The show will be streaming live on our site, so be sure to tune in!

 

Our featured blog post is by Shirley Knight, of Shirley Knight and Associates. Shirley is a new Contributor to the Agency Blog and she specializes in the importance of culture and leadership. Today's leaders are growing more and more concerned that their companies, divisions or departments are lacking innovation. However, they need to look no further than the mirror to understand the reason why. Leading the market through innovation is a strategy; whether or not a company achieves that strategy is determined by its culture; leaders both set and sustain culture. Hence, if you are leader, innovation is yours if you want it.

How can I be so sure that leadership is the primary factor affecting culture and therefore innovation? It is not just because I have read about Steve Jobs and Jack Welch. No, the more personally significant answer is because I have witnessed single leaders invoke profound and ubiquitous influence on the cultures of very large corporations. In fact, I had a unique experience that created such significant awareness for me that I decided to focus on leadership development in my career.

The Provocateur : Why Does The Meeting & Event Community Exist?

Every doctor knows if you want to find the solution to what ails a patient, you have to identify the problem. The meetings and events community would make a terrible doctor, because it often has a tendency to develop tunnel vision, resulting in its failure to see the root of the problem. Allow me to explain...

 

The community is playing in two sandboxes. In sandbox one, the community is circling the wagons, helping classic professional planners deliver efficient travel and hospitality meeting and event inputs for their organizations. It's also offering lead-generation support to providers of travel and hospitality products and services. The challenge with this is, the community places disproportionate importance on meeting and event inputs and efficiency, mis-classifying them as cost centres instead of the investment they are.
