Peregrine Agency Newsletter
TOPIssue No. TwentyFebruary 2012
Greetings!

More than ever, we are becoming increasingly aware of not only the challenges that complexity brings but of the enormous opportunities too. In the 2010 IBM Global CEO Survey we agreed that our primary focus is to figure out how to effectively manage the increasingly changing and uncertain world. And it's probably no surprise that a number of us feel ill-equipped to succeed in this drastically different world we now live and work in.

This is why our Agency decided to create Corner Office and the 2012 Complexity Series. In our first installment: How To Make Complexity Work For You? we placed three Big Thinkers right in the eye of the complexity hurricane. We asked the often unasked questions to provide you with insight you won't find anywhere else. In case you missed the live broadcast we've included a hyperlink to the recorded version in this issue.

Also in this issue Jean Letourneau, a Corner Office Explorer and CEO of SBVCG Inc., shares 5-Key Points on the CEO's Predicament when it comes to dealing with complexity. This is a great segue to our next episode: Creative Leadership on Thursday March 8th, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EST. We are thrilled to announce that we will be filming on-location at the InterContinental Toronto Centre Hotel Lobby (a Corner Office first!) and streaming live on our site. If you're in the neighbourhood come on out and be part of our live audience.

Also in this issue is a White Paper on the Perception of the business value of an event portfolio versus the Reality. And a Forbes Insight Survey on how to mobilize organizations to innovate. And finally if you're a Provocateur we've added some spicy information in the Resources corner!

In Corner Office and at The Peregrine Agency we are all about provoking raw conversations with like-minded folks at every turn. So if you have a leadership or business story to share, please contact us; we'd love to hear it and maybe even feature it in a future Corner Office episode.

Happy reading! Logging out now...

Corner Office Live: Ep #7
Complexity Series: How To Make Complexity Work for You

This show was broadcast live on-location at THiNKSPOT Burlington.

Corner Office Explorer and CEO of SBVCG Inc., Jean Letourneau, shares 5 Key Points on the CEO's Predicaments when it comes to Complexity.

"Today's complexity is only expected to rise, and more than half of CEOs doubt their ability to manage it". According to IBM's 2010 Capitalizing on Complexity Study which performed face-to-face interviews with 1,500 CEOs and other leaders around the world, 79% of CEOs anticipate even greater complexity ahead. Do you view complexity in your organization as a burden to be avoided or see it as a catalyst and accelerator to create innovation and new ways of delivering value?

Perception vs. Reality
The economic crisis is one of the greatest challenges facing businesses today. And it's exacerbated by a crisis in leadership when it comes to articulating a clear business value proposition and executing on that vision.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the meeting industry, which has struggled to justify its business value well before the public heard about AIG junkets or Muffingate.

Recent MPI research finds that less than 1 percent of organizations attempt to measure the business value of their meetings. And the research points to more serious questions of responsibility and accountability when companies are allocating limited resources without knowing what they're getting in return.

The good news for businesses that truly want to understand what they're getting for their investment, from a financial and human capital perspective, is that the process exists. The bad news is that there seems to be a conspiracy among the vast majority of meeting stakeholders, professionals and even attendees to maintain the status quo.

How Entrepreneurial Executives Mobilize Organizations To Innovate...A Forbes Insight Survey

'Innovation is a prerequisite for corporate growth. This study undertakes to analyze how best to nurture and encourage those who put forward innovations, and it provides research about the types of employees valuable in conceptualizing and implementing ideas. In negating stereotypes based on characteristics of groups of people predisposed to entrepreneurship, this study further underscores the need to nurture existing resources through designated innovation budgets. Due to the crucial roles played by finance departments in fostering innovation, which was revealed in the study, enhancing their entrepreneurial status would highly benefit corporations in maintaining their competitive edge.'
