4 - State Watershed Academy

David Casaletto, Executive Director Ozarks Water Watch

Water Warriors: There is an exciting event coming this September that you must attend, the 4-State Watershed Academy to be held on September 29th & 30th at the Cherokee Casino Hotel Conference Center in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma. This event will bring together local, state and federal elected officials, regulatory agencies, watershed organizations and the general public from all four states to share and learn about water quality in the watersheds that reside in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. Watersheds do not follow political boundaries and as such require a high level of communication and cooperation between all parties to achieve the goal of clean water. Be a part of the effort!

DNR shifts focus in fight against water pollution

News-Leader.com, June 17, 2011

People living near waterways will play bigger role.

Instead of relying on federal and state agencies to fight water pollution, people living near lakes and streams will play a bigger role in that battle in the future, the top state environmental official said Friday.

DNR is shifting its role away from hunting down what are known as point-source sources of pollution, such as industrial waste flowing from pipes, as those problems are corrected, said Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Sara Parker Pauley.

EPA Improves Access to Information on Hundreds of Chemicals / Searchable databases on chemical toxicity and exposure data now available

EPA News Releases - Research, June 15, 2011

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is making it easier to find data about chemicals. EPA is releasing two databases - the Toxicity Forecaster database (ToxCastDB) and a database of chemical exposure studies (ExpoCastDB) - that scientists and the public can use to access chemical toxicity and exposure data. Improved access supports EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson's priorities of protecting Americans' health by assuring the safety of chemicals and expanding the conversation on environmentalism.

ADEQ SETS STATEWIDE INFORMATIONAL TOUR

ADEQ Press Release, June 3, 2011

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is set to begin a state-wide tour aimed at educating Arkansas citizens about the department's work. ADEQ will visit six locations across the state for a free informational meeting.

"We are thrilled we will be able to explain our mission and the inner workings of our agency to people around the state," says ADEQ Director Teresa Marks.

The tour is designed to give Arkansans a chance to see a multi-media presentation and learn more about ADEQ, as well as the opportunity to ask questions and offer feedback. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch that they can eat during the presentation.
