2010 Borlaug Dialogue: "Take it to the Farmer""Take it to the farmer." Inspired by these last words of World Food Prize founder Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, the 2010 Borlaug Dialogue - to be held October 13-15 - will focus on how to successfully partner with and benefit small-scale farmers around the globe.

Plan now to join foremost international leaders and thinkers in agriculture, food, and development in Des Moines in seeking ways to make Dr. Borlaug's last wish a reality. More on the 2010 Borlaug Dialogue HERE.

Construction begins on the Hall of LaureatesDes Moines residents and visitors have no doubt noticed that construction is underway on converting the former Des Moines Public Library into the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates.

Borlaug-Ruan International Internship alum applies lessons of experience at home and abroad
 
Borlaug-Ruan alum Stephen Lauer
Stephen Lauer (2006 Borlaug-Ruan Intern at the WorldFish Center in Abbassa, Egypt) spent six months of 2009 studying agricultural development in South Africa. Read his first-person account of how the internship has shaped his work at home and abroad here.
Renowned sustainability expert Louise Fresco joins Council of Advisors
 
Council of Advisors member Louise Fresco
University of Amsterdam professor Dr. Louise Fresco, a recognized global leader in agricultural sustainability and former high-ranking official with the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization, has accepted an invitation to join the World Food Prize Council of Advisors. 
 
Working at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization from 1997 to 2006 - first as director of research, extension and training and later as assistant director-general - Dr. Fresco oversaw major reforms towards more flexibility in responding to worldwide agricultural crises, increased collaboration with the private sector and NGOs, and a better gender balance. More on Louise Fresco HERE

Nominations for the World Food Prize are being accepted through April 1, 2010.
 
The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing the accomplishments of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world.

Nominations are sought of an individual or individuals having demonstrated exceptional achievement in any field involved in enhancing food production and distribution and increasing food availability and accessibility to those most in need. Any academic or research institution, private or public organization, corporate entity, or governmental unit may submit a nomination for The World Food Prize.
 
"It is imperative that those individuals whose work has truly made a difference in the lives and well-being of large numbers of people are considered for this award," said the late Norman Borlaug, who founded the World Food Prize in 1986.
