2009 Borlaug Dialogue: A week of events highlighting global food security
 
2009 Borlaug Dialogue AgendaIn conjunction with the Borlaug Dialogue, several organizations are meeting in Des Moines during World Food Prize week to spotlight aspects of food security.
 
The Community Food Security Coalition national conference is taking place October 10-13. USDA, USAID, the Partnership to Cut Hunger and Poverty in Africa, the Heartland Global Health Consortium, and the American Food Venture Forum will all hold events on October 13 and 14. Likewise, the World Food Prize will be hosting the third annual Iowa Hunger Summit on October 13.
 
Other groups like the International Food Policy Research Institute, the Global Harvest Initiative, and International Traders of Iowa will also host events during the "Borlaug Dialogue." A full agenda with details is being updated regularly here.
2009 World Food Prize Laureate Gebisa Ejeta hailed as a hero upon return to native Ethiopia
 
2009 World Food Prize Laureate Gebisa EjetaLast month, 2009 World Food Prize Laureate Gebisa Ejeta returned to his home in Ethiopia. He received a hero's welcome as he visited his village, childhood school, high school, and college.
 
Dr. Ejeta will be presented the World Food Prize on Thursday, October 15, at the Iowa State Capitol. More on his visit home can be found here.
World Food Prize Foundation to take possession of former Des Moines public library, begin work on Hall of Laureates
 
The Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates
The World Food Prize Foundation and the City of Des Moines have begun the process of transferring ownership of the former Des Moines Public Library building.
 
The transfer is scheduled to be completed in October, at which time construction will begin on converting the century-old building into the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates. MORE
Borlaug-Ruan Intern Alumni program launched
 
Borlaug-Ruan Intern Alumni ProgramSince its creation in 1998, 127 remarkable high school students from across Iowa and the United States have participated in the Borlaug-Ruan International Internship program. In order to provide greater professional support to the interns upon their return home, the World Food Prize Foundation has launched an intern alumni program - organizing a series of events and opportunities for the alumni to stay connected. Register now for the 2009 Borlaug Dialogue
Join us in Des Moines for the "most significant observance of World Food Day anywhere"
 
There's still time to register for the "Borlaug Dialogue" in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 14-16, which will focus on Food, Agriculture, and National Security in a Globalized World.
 
Recent additions to the program include a global roundtable of agricultural ministers convened by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and presentations by Earth Institute at Columbia University director Jeffrey Sachs, Ambassador Faida Mitifu of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and former U.S. Envoy to Sudan Richard Williamson.
 
They join participants including Bill Gates, former President Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique, ADM CEO Patricia Woertz, DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman, PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, and diverse experts from the UN, the World Bank, USAID, the Worldwatch Institute, and several international NGOs and research institutions.
