Norman Borlaug celebrates 95th birthday
 
 
Dr. Norman BorlaugDr. Norman E. Borlaug - founder of the World Food Prize, "Father of the Green Revolution," and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate - celebrated his 95th birthday at his Dallas home on March 25. 
 
Dr. Borlaug spent the days leading up to his birthday meeting with experts from around the world in Mexico to address the threat that stem rust poses to the world's wheat supply. For more, please click HERE.
 
2009 Borlaug-Ruan International Interns announced
 
The World Food Prize Foundation will send 15 high school students on all-expenses-paid, eight-week research assignments in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East this summer.
 
Nine Iowa high school students, along with students from California, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska and Texas, have been selected for the prestigious Borlaug-Ruan International Internship program. Find a listing of the interns HERE.
 
Hall of Laureates receives new funding; work scheduled to begin in June
 
The Norman E. Borlaug Hall of LaureatesThe World Food Prize's plans to renovate the former Des Moines Public Library building as the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates received significant boosts thanks to a $500,000 pledge from the Dahl Trust and a $100,000 contribution from Prairie Meadows.
 
The first phase of construction work on the Hall of Laureates is scheduled to begin in June. For more on the Hall of Laureates, please click HERE.


2009 Borlaug Dialogue to address "Food, Agriculture and National Security in a Globalized World"
 
The 2009 Borlaug Dialogue symposium will ask experts and decision-makers from around the world how their fields - in policy, industry, science and academia, and development - can ensure adequate access to food and nutrition for, and thus contribute to the security of, all people.

World Food Prize to cosponsor April 7 symposium
World Food Prize to cosponsor April 7 symposium in Chicago
 
 
The World Food Prize will serve as a co-sponsor of an April 7 symposium organized by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
 
The symposium, entitled "Meeting the Challenge of Global Agricultural Development and Food Security: Renewing American Leadership," will present and discuss the the Global Agricultural Development's report outlining the importance of support for improving global agriculture.
 
The report was co-chaired by 2003 World Food Prize Laureate Catherine Bertini and features contributions from fellow Laureates Per Pinstrup-Andersen, Pedro Sanchez, Monty Jones, and M.S. Swaminathan.
Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, president of the World Food Prize Foundation, will speak at the April 7 event. For details and registration information, please click HERE.
