The Norman E. Boralug Hall of Laureates
Hall of Laureates Update

The World Food Prize continues to make strong progress in its plans to restore the century-old Des Moines Public Library as the Dr. Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates.  This architectural treasure will not only tell the story of Dr. Borlaug's historic accomplishments and those of other Iowa heroes in feeding the world, but will also be a convocation center hosting future Borlaug Dialogues and the Global Youth Institute.

Design work for the building renovations and marvelous public gardens have been successfully completed and the construction documents are close to completion.  Plans are underway to begin the first phase of construction in spring 2009. The entire project is slated for completion in late 2010.

Collectively, this project is a $29.8 million effort. We have attained close to $21 million to date. Our plan is to raise the remaining funds by March 25, 2009 which marks Dr. Borlaug's 95th birthday.

Enshrined in this historic convocation center, Dr. Borlaug's legacy will continue to serve as an inspiration to all those who are struggling in the 21st century to ensure that the world population will have sufficient food and adequate nutrition.
