Healthy Greetings,
Our Earth Day Celebration at The Health Chic House was a great success. Over 500 folks came out to learn green living tips. The real life educational displays were a big hit.
We have two more events this month, Central Florida Earth Day in Orlando and Using Earth Day Principles in the Real World at The Health Chic House. On Wednesday nights you can find us at the market. We just started a new farmer's market at Cagan Crossings. We'd love to have you stop by for a visit and try the fresh caught fish, homemade jam, local honey, and fresh produce. As summer approaches we launch our new educational series with long time friend and colleague Dr. Kimberly Balas, N.D. In the Fall we will release our new trivia game, "What's Your Eco-IQ?" As the Internet continues to change, at The Health Chic we continue to keep pace with the times. Look for us on Facebook and Twitter. Eco Regards, Wendimere

Earth Day Celebration 2009
Highlights
Guided tours by The Health Chic were a crowd pleaser. Visit the Photo Album and see for yourself.
If you missed it, the tour went something like this:
First stop, the Stormwater station to learn how run-off from your rooftop picks up debris and chemicals and ends up in our lakes and drinking water.
Next, learn the 9 Principles of Florida Friendly Landscaping. While talking about compost the worm container is opened and the crowd both young and old goes wild at a chance to play with the worms.
Rain Barrel systems are nothing new, but this year Bill outdid himself with a rain barrel system with submersible pump which is attached to a micro-irrigation system connected to the container gardens. It even works! Even the irrigation experts were impressed with this one.
Our next demo was brought to life by our friend and fellow Airstreamer Dave Barto. Dave used to sell low flow toilets and was able to get us a flush station demo. We got to flush an entire box of golf balls down the toilet to show that even if you take herbs from The Health Chic you can still own an effective low flow toilet.
Last stop the new Aquaponic station. This is an amazing contraption that Bill has been studying all year. It's a pond filled with fish (tilapia) connected to lettuce beds. The nutrient-rich wastes from the fish pond are used to fertilize the hydroponic plant beds. Total sustainability in action!

Food, Inc
Free Nationwide Screenings
This new film asks the question,
"How much do we really know about the food we buy at our local supermarkets and serve to our families?"- takepart website
The film includes interviews with Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) and Michael Pollan (The Omnivore's Dilemma) so I am certainly putting it on my summer movie list.
Free screenings are taking place throughout the country.
