Dear Teachers,
Keeping your students focused is a learned skill. We asked our teacher-authors for
their most effective technique for quickly getting wandering minds back on task. Here's
what they shared:
"We say, 'Hocus Pocus', they shout 'We need to focus!', and ideally get right back to
work. Great for the month of October and beyond!" --Christy and Tammy
"I teach sixth grade. I don't have to say a word. I simply walk over to my desk, pick
up my conduct book, and look around the room while holding it. In a matter of seconds,
everyone is magically focused. They know they can earn conduct "smiles" in there.
Behold the power of the book." --The Peanut Gallery
"Kindergarteners are notorious for taking everything personally. If one is in trouble,
oftentimes the whole class thinks they are in trouble. The reverse is also true.
So, if I need the class to get back to work, all I have to do is
say, to no one in particular, 'I see some great workers!' Halos restored! (For a few
minutes anyway!)" --Richi Reynolds
"I will whisper really, really quietly- 'If you're listening touch your nose. If you're
listening touch your shoulders. If you're listening put your hands up, etc.' I
normally make the movements more and more noticeable until everyone is following along.
I do a few to get out the wiggles and then we continue with whatever we're doing."
--Primary Paradise
"Here's a couple of zingers I like to use on my high school students: 'Stop wasting the
tax payers money.' Or: 'This is the only time in your life that your education will be
free. Don't waste it.' --Creative Classroom A to Z
And our favorite, "Stop acting like a pork chop!" --Brooke Benyon

TpT SPOTLIGHT
Want to share the gift of TpT with your school? Post this flyer in your teacher's lounge or office bulletin board.
We're really proud to report that our sellers are now offering over 50,000 FREE resources in the TpT catalog, 10 of which we bubble up every week in this here newsletter. What teachers know is that as good as it is to get, it's even better to give. On behalf of all our buyers and browsers, thanks!
Big congrats to the latest sellers to surpass $20,000 in earnings! Rocking the milestone were Tara West, Dwayne Kohn, Dana Richliew whose store is called 3rd Grade Gridiron, Julie Van Alst, Miss Kindergarten Love and Christina Bainbridge. And surpassing the big $75,000 mark this past week was Hope King. Way to go helping other teachers as well as your families!
There are lots of new ed tech tools coming online as more entrepreneurs jump into the space. One is Learni.st, a sort of Pinterest for education (where you can feel free to create boards with TpT products in them, hint hint). Also, if you're looking for an online lesson planner, check out Common Curriculum which just launched this week. Let us know what you think and if you come across any other cool tools.
**Importantly, we have enabled multiple license purchasing on TpT. When you buy a digital document, you buy one user license, but now you can buy additional user licenses if you intend to share. You'll see a Buy Multiple Licenses button just under Add to Cart (1 Lic.) on every product page now. We make it easy to do the right thing.
