Inspired Path Dragon Fly Image

Welcome to December!
I find it almost unfathomable that we stand at the conclusion of yet another year. The time seems to fly by faster and faster and nothing can stop it!

As 2010 winds down, and we enter the season of holidays, family and celebration, it is a powerful time to reflect on where we've been and where we are going.

In the midst of all the holiday hoopla that is going to be upon us soon, it is important to take quiet moments apart to simply enjoy the present moment, take stock and dream.

I wish you a holiday season of deep peace, contentment and joy!

"Our prime purpose in this life is to help others.  And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them."
~ The Dalai Lama

"We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us."
~ E. M. Forester

"If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow."
~ Chinese Proverb

Forced Down Time
When life demands your attention

As I write this newsletter, I'm in the midst of the first cold I've had in 2 years. This is, in fact, the first time I've been sick at all in that time period. It's never fun to be sick, but at certain times in our lives it's more disruptive than others.

I find myself in the middle of many big projects and fast paced activities at present. On top of increased work and personal responsibilities, the holidays are coming!

To be sick now is entirely inconvenient. Yet, I'm sick and there's not a dang thing I can do about it!

What to do?  I've learned that 'resistance is futile' when it comes to certain life events. Catching a cold or getting the flu are a couple of those things.

I'm taking lots of vitamin C, drinking lots of fluids and sleeping a lot. I'm also letting go of what I can't control and letting myself off the hook for all the things I 'should be getting done.' They simply will get done a little later - that's all.

Fighting 'what is' gets us nowhere. It really is a waste of precious time and energy. When life hands us something that requires our undivided attention, the best way through it is to surrender and allow it to run its course.

That being said, I'm on my way back under the covers now to take my 4th nap of the day!

Resistance is futile! Acceptance is key!
Inspirational Song
Stand and Deliver
Mr. Mister

Music is a huge part of my personal and spiritual growth process. I use music every single day for motivation, inspiration, and as a tonic when I need comfort and encouragement.

This song comes from my movie pick. There is not much more that I need to say! It is a reminder that we, ultimately, are reponsible for how we show up in life and what is possible for us to achieve.

Let this song perk up your mood!

Here is an excerpt from the song lyrics:

Some people hate and expect affection
Some people lie and demand the truth
I gotta ask myself if it's soul deception
Is this the natural thing that we all just do

We take such pleasure from pain,
I'm just tired of playing that game
Some things you've got to change

You've got to stand and deliver,
with your body and soul
Stand and deliver,
just give me something to hold
Stand and deliver,
if the truth can be told
We can make it together,
if we stand - stand and deliver

Stand and Deliver

Stand and Devlier DVD Cover
Movies are one of my favorite ways to relax and inspire myself! Many movies have profound messages for us embedded within the stories they tell.

Stand and Deliver is based on a true story of Jaimie Escalante, a computer programmer turned high school math teacher in 1980s Los Angeles. Finding himself in a tough Hispanic high school, Mr. Escalante is deeply troubled by the level of performance that he sees in his math students. He decides to show the kids and community alike that they are capable of much, much more.

Through a rigorous program he uses creative and unorthodox methods to raise the level of math education and competence in the students of Garfield High School.

This is a fantastically inspiring story of one man's crusade to change the world around him. Undaunted by the impossibility of the task, he simply will not be deterred from changing life for the kids he come in contact with.

A beautiful story of dedication and perseverance. It's a great movie to watch with the whole family!
