Welcome to May!

Greetings from the Middle East. I feel blessed to be spending the spring time in such a sacred and special place.

One of the great blessings of my life has been the opportunity and ability to travel and experience different places and cultures. It has changed me, to the core of my being.

As I sit in this place, having just experienced Easter and Passover, I feel inspired to look at life differently. The message of Easter, to me, is one of rebirth and renewal. It's about the possibility surrounding the new life that comes from letting go of the old and embracing a different reality.

I wish you a powerful experience of transformation and rebirth in this time of spring renewal and of absolute resurrection as you rise to freedom from the old, dead past.

Spring forward into new, invigorated life!

New Vantage Point

Shift Your Perspective, Shift Your World

I'm writing this from far away from my home. I've been in the Middle East for the past month, and still have a bit of time before I return home. I'm here visiting friends and doing some consulting work.

I love the shifts that come with changing your vantage point. When I'm on the other side of the world, living immersed in a culture different from my own, my eyes open to new ways of looking at life. So many things are different, it is impossible to remain hypnotized by my ordinary existence.

Changing your vantage point can cause you to challenge long held assumptions and rigid thinking. Busting out of 'habitual thinking' can be incredibly beneficial to us!

Einstein said, "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it."

It's easier than we think to shake things up a little and shift our perspective, vantage point and ultimately our consciousness!

In the movie, "The Dead Poets Society" Robin Williams plays a teacher, determined to inspire his students to claim their unique, authentic presence in the world. One of the 'exercises' that he has his students do is to stand on top of a desk in the classroom to change their perspective on the everyday existence within which they find themselves. Simple... but brilliant!

Find a way to change your vantage point. Change the way you get ready in the morning. Try putting the opposite leg first into your underwear or pant legs. Change your routine. Mix up the order of the tasks you do to get ready for your day. Drive or walk a different route on your way to a familiar destination.

Change it up, and expand your world.

Inspirational Song

I Believe in You
Amanda Marshall

Music is a huge part of my personal and spiritual growth process. I use music every single day for motivation, inspiration, and as a tonic when I need comfort and encouragement.

This is a song I've shared with many friends and clients over the years. To me, it expresses how I feel about people and their potential. We all need more belief in ourselves and our possibilities. I believe that one of my primary roles in life, especially in my work, is to help people cultivate belief in themselves. This song conveys how I feel, perfectly.

Here is an excerpt from the song lyrics:

Somewhere there's a river, looking for a stream
Somewhere there's a dreamer, looking for a dream
Somewhere there's a drifter, trying to find his way
Somewhere someone's waiting to hear somebody say

I believe in you, and I can't even count the ways that
I believe in you,
and all I want to do is help you to... believe in you

Somewhere someone's reaching trying to grab that ring
Somewhere there's a silent voice learning how to sing
Some of us can't move ahead,
we're paralyzed with fear
And everybody's waiting, to hear somebody say

I believe in you, and I can't even count the ways that
I believe in you,
and all I want to do is help you to... believe in you

You can listen to the song on Youtube. The video is kind of poor quality, but this is the album version of the song, which I just love:

The Pursuit of Happyness

The Pursuit of Happyness DVD Cover

Movies are one of my favorite ways to relax and inspire myself! Many movies have profound messages for us, embedded within the stories they tell.

The Pursuit of Happyness is the true story of Christopher Gardner, a bright, determined young father who longs for a better life for he and his son. Christopher starts his life with brains and enthusiasm, but continually butts up against limited opportunity. This is the story of a man who literally 'made his own circumstances' and radically changed the course of his life and the life of his son!

I love this movie, because it doesn't sugar coat what Christopher had to do to become successful and alter his destiny. At one point, he and his son are homeless and completely broke as he works in a 'no salary' internship vying for a long shot opportunity as a stock broker. Few of us will ever demonstrate the courage, determination and sheer force of will that this man did, although all of us have the capacity! Chris Gardner started with nothing, and out of his drive to succeed, provide for his son and give his son a better future he made sacrifice after sacrifice to forge a path to greatness.

If you think you've had it tough, and ever find yourself wishing you had more going for you in life, watch this movie! This guy had just about every obstacle known to man thrown in his path, and he just kept on trying. He eventually was well rewarded for his efforts, but the process to get there? Simply amazing and awe inspiring!

I saw this movie with a friend and her 14 year old son. He 'got it' but I wouldn't watch it with younger kids. It's pretty intense, and definitely requires a more mature mind to grasp the lessons involved. Well worth watching!!

Inspired Path® Living Blog
Each week day, I use my blog to share my thoughts and spiritual perspective on this thing called life.

Here's what one reader recently shared with me:

"Nola, just a note to let you know how much I've been enjoying your blog each day! I love and relate to so many of them!

Your writings give me something special to read and consider each day, and I make it a point to start out with that before I hit the daily job search.

I find the stories and lessons stay with me, long after I've read them. Thank you for what you do!"

A shift will do you good!

Find a way to change your vantage point, alter your perspective and look at life anew. As spring  explodes around us (at least in the Pacific Northwest) and reminds us of fresh beginnings and new life, find that same energy within yourself.

Allow yourself to be inspired and shift into a new experience!
