Welcome to October!
Fall has definitely arrived in Seattle. I had to turn the heat on in my house for the first time since May! The leaves are starting to turn beautiful, vibrant colors. Darkness comes earlier and earlier every evening. Change is upon us. Ready or not - here it comes! We can go kicking and screaming through this change of 'seasons' and bemoan the 'lost summer' or we can appreciate the beauty and unique energy of the autumn. The old is being released, outward growth is slowing down and we are moving into an inward experience of marshalling our strength during the long, dark days of winter. Enjoy the autumn and the call to let go of the old and turn inward for awhile! |

"I think one's feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring results." ~ Florence Nightingale "Your life will be no better than the plans you make and the action you take. Making Peace With What Is
Acceptance as a Path to Freedom
The seasons are changing at the moment. Summer in Seattle is yielding to the cool, crisp days of autumn. There isn't a thing any of us can do about it.
Some people will welcome this transition. Others will be frustrated and disappointed by it. No matter what our reaction, the change is happening anyway.
I'm a big believer in fully participating in the co-creation of my life. I believe that God or the Universe and I create my life together. My responsibility and opportunity to affect my destiny are powerful!
Yet, it is also important to realize that sometimes I will not get what I want or think is best for me. Sometimes there is a higher plan in place. A plan that I can't see at the present moment. In some cases, I might eventually get to see and understand. In other cases, I won't.
The bottom line is, I have to do all I can to reach my goals and pursue what it is I want in life and then release the outcome to a higher source.
Even while I'm working for a different future or outcome than where I find myself in the present moment, I can still find peace by accepting the place I stand today. Hating or resisting where I am is not going to get me out of it. In fact, denying my reality or despising it feeds energy into the very situation I want to get out of.
Learning to 'accept what is' while working for a different experience is the key to finding peace in life - whether you have what you want, or not. The best chance of changing a situation is to accept the current situation BECAUSE IT EXISTS, and then set about changing it in all the ways you know how.
Acceptance does not mean giving up! A lot of people think that if they accept something, they are saying they want it to stay that way for ever. That is resignation. Resigning oneself to a condition is different than accepting that the condition is what exists RIGHT NOW. It might not exist in the next minute, hour, day, week, month or year... but it is what it is - right now.
Weight loss is one of the areas that provides a great example. Hating and despising one's body because it isn't the size we want it to be, keeps us locked in an unwinnable battle with ourselves. Through accepting ourselves at our current size, accepting it 'as it is' allows us to work for change from a place of love and compassion for ourselves, rather than from a position of self hatred! Fighting ourselves is exhausting. Loving ourselves, and making changes to help our bodies get healthier is where we want to place that energy.
Become a student of 'acceptance.' The more we accept what is, the easier it is to move off of that spot into a reality we'd rather experience.
Accept what is.

Inspirational Song MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU
Jonny Diaz
Music is a huge part of my personal and spiritual growth process. I use music every single day for motivation, inspiration, and as a tonic when I need comfort and encouragement.
This song means a lot to me. I care so deeply about the cultural influences on young girls to be thin and to look far older than they are.
As someone who overcame a very destructive eating disorder, this song makes me cry every single time I hear it. It's about loving and accepting yourself as you are - realizing that you are made to be unique and perfect just as you are.
If I had one dream for every girl on the planet, it would be to see themselves through the eyes of love and acceptance.
This song delivers the message beautifully. It's a Christian song, with a Christian message delivered towards the end, but even if that's not your thing - I encourage you to listen to this song from the perspective of encouraging young girls to embrace their unique and special beauty.
Here is an excerpt from the song lyrics:
Little girl fourteen flipping through a magazine Says she wants to look that way But her hair isn't straight her body isn't fake And she's always felt overweight
Well little girl fourteen I wish that you could see That beauty is within your heart And you were made with such care your skin your body and your hair Are perfect just the way they are
There could never be a more beautiful you Don't buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through
You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do So there could never be a more beautiful you

Nola's Movie Pick A BEAUTIFUL MIND Movies are one of my favorite ways to relax and inspire myself! Many movies have profound messages for us, embedded within the stories they tell.
A Beautiful Mind is a story based on the true life experiences of brilliant mathematician, John Nash. The movie follows his life from his student days as a budding genius, with a life and mind full of potential before him, through his descent into the terribly tormented world of Paranoid Schizophrenia. During his career Nash made notable contributions in game theory, differential geometry, and partial differential equations. His theories are still used today in market economics, computing, artificial intelligence, accounting and military theory. In 1994 he shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with two other game theorists for his contribution in that arena. John Nash had a plan for his life. As a brilliant mathematician, he was thrilled to spend his hours and days in deep thought. His mind was his gift and he reveled in using it to its full potential. Without warning, his greatest gift, became the source of his greatest torment and pain. Mr. Nash did not get to live the life he had planned and dreamed of. Life dealt him a card he didn't expect, deserve or want. His mental illness became a consuming and disruptive factor in his life. What ensued was a courageous and valiant struggle for his sanity and his very life. What strikes me most about his story, is that Mr. Nash made a decision to craft a life for himself that he could live WITH his mental illness. It never went away. He had to find a way to challenge his delusions and inner torment, with this own thinking, in order to remain functional and to stay connected to reality. He didn't get to have the life he wanted or planned for. He did, however, find a way to work with his mind throughout his life in a way that made it possible for him to live, survive AND that let him continue to use the gift of his mind to serve the world. He didn't give up. He accepted what he had to accept and found a way to go on in spite of the enormous challenges he faced, and continues to face to this day. He used his mind, the very mind that tormented him, to help himself find a way to live. This is a truly inspirational story of acceptance and determination. John Nash is an inspiration to me. This movie is also very well done and provides great entertainment as it inspires! Here is a trailer for the movie. I apologize for the advertisement at the beginning of it! As the leaves swirl down in a glorious symphony of color, embrace the change of seasons in your life.
The old must pass away in order for the new buds to emerge in the spring.
Celebrate the season! Allow the change!
